Puppeteer's Dance

I dance across the blackened floor,

My puppeteer pulling gently at my strings.

She caresses my body,

And I dance on.

I come in different colors,

But today I am Green.

Then, another dancer joins my show,

I recognize him as my friend, Blue.

Blue dances with me,

But our time is turned short.

He disappears before my very eyes,

Blue's remainders float around in the air.

But I can't stop,

So I dance on.

Minutes after seconds,

I slowly grow shorter,

As my puppeteer pulls my strings.

She has forced me back to my metal ledge,

Where I rest until my next show.

A while later, she is back,

And again, I dance on my dusty floor.

I dance and I dance,

Knowing my time will soon run short.

Just like Blue, I grow shorter.

 I take my final dance,

My puppeteer working hard,

As I take my last turn.

The crowd cheers on,

My puppeteer now gone,

As I fade to the dust of my chalk-self...
