Five minutes later, the trio returned from checking the perimeter."Clear," informed Mrax, "other than those crushed at our feet, we are alone."
"Good. We'll take a break here then. Everyone check yourselves and eat on what you can. We'll proceed in a couple hours."
Kaet came over to help Jerza and Nasri check Sumavs wound. He held his left hand over the wound, blood slowly seeping through his fingers.
"I'm alright guys, really." He tried to act tough.
"Alright doesn't mean blood still flowing." Jerza scolded him, trying to convince him that he needed to let them help. "I don't have a needle or I'd try to sew it shut."
"Or we could use a torch and cauterize it." Nasri suggested.
Sumav cringed at the thought.
"I can make something if you want it either way." Kaet spoke up.
"Really?" Nasri asked. "I saw the way you made those guns appear. You can do anything you imagine?"
"Pretty much. Been trying to keep it to small stuff, blasters, spikes, that rough size. Try to make something too big and it starts to strain me."
"Ok," Jerza turned from Sumav, "what would you do for this?"
Kaet thought for a moment. Her father had taught her and Mrax many things. Tending to wounds, he believed, was just as important as knowing how to inflict them.
"I'd cauterize since we're in the wild. Then when you get to a clean area, reopen it and sew it properly. That way he can keep going till we're done out here."
Kaet formed a disc at her side, and from it procured a small, but effective, blow torch and an arms-length of iron.
She held the tip of the iron to the torches flame until it glowed red hot.
Nasri tore a piece from her pack and gave it to Sumav to bite down on. Breknaf and Mrax joined them, holding one arm apiece.
"Alright," Kaet leveled the iron to the wound, "bite down."
Quickly, she pressed the iron to the bleeding wound, hearing flesh and blood sizzle.
Sumav struggled slightly and muffled a shout into the piece of pack in his teeth, tears forming in his eyes.
At last, she let up, and stepped aside, allowing them to see the cauterized area. It was red all around, due in part to dried blood, but it had sealed off.
Clavis was called over next and he quickly made some sauve by mashing nearby plants and mixing together the remnants. While it couldn't aid in healing the wound, it would numb the pain.
Once Sumav was bandaged, they settled down under the nearby trees.
They all circled nearby this time, around one large fire, made easy with the lighter Kaet had used.
They snacked on a bit of the food from their packs, and got drink by cutting open several of the larger plants, that Clavis called Igeroo. They had a thick hide, and barely glowed, but once you cut through an inch of its hide, it opened to reveal a light blue glowing liquid.
Clavis drank first, then Gathen, proving that it was safe, then the others began to dip into it with their cups or hands.
"Where are you guys from?" Nasri asked, a small wooden cup of Igeroo juice in her hand.
"We came from Baza, a planet where our father was king." Mrax told them.
"Yeah," Kaet added, "We left when he turned to a depressed asshole." She took a long sip from a cup she had made appear.
