Katniss had never fully accepted Prim's death, still half-expecting her to walk through the door, her shirt tail untucked. One night, Katniss awoke from her recurring nightmares in a blind panic; unable to calm herself down, she went to check that her children hadnt been taken by the Capitol. When she saw Buttercup guarding her daughter, the way he had guarded Prim, something inside her broke and she sank down and sobbed for her lost sister. That day she accepted Prim's death, and in it, she freed herself.
