Today, I made a post that said all lives matter. Not to dismiss any other movement. I made it so that the readers could know that they are worth something and that they matter. Black lives matter is such an empowering movement and I hope those who we've lost due to racism get the justice they deserve. I made the post to say that everyone matters. I was inspired by mental illness and suicide (which happens every single day). I honestly had no idea that the hashtag was already a thing. I thought of the men who were murdered for the colour of their skin this week, I thought of all the victims in the Orlando shooting, I thought of every individual life on this earth.
Mostly, I thought of suicide. And the ones who thought their lives never mattered. They died thinking that, it might just have been the last thought in their mind. Mental illness is very common in today's youth. There are so many people struggling with mental illness and suicidal thoughts who don't have a voice. As someone who has struggled with mental illness, I thought about all the people we could save. All the people we could save by letting them know that they matter. All the amazing things we could do if we spread the word. How amazing it would be that a simple message to someone you love could save their lives and yours.
Every 40 seconds, someone commits suicide. They predict by 2020, it will increase to 20 seconds.
