Chapter 5

Continued from Chapter 4 - Dev and Sona confess their love for each other..

Dev and Sona walked hand in hand back to Dev's house. Sona wanted to go back home, but it was too late in the night and too far away, she was exhausted and Dev was also sick and not fully recovered. 

Dev was still apologetic about making her cry and Sona teased him on how he needed more experience on being a boyfriend. 

"Kitna weird lag raha hai aapko boyfriend kehte hue." giggled Sona.

"Kyun? main kisika boyfriend nahin ho sakta??" mocked Dev, feigning anger.

"Nahin aap kisike boss ho sakte ho, kisike uncle ho sakte ho, kisike teacher bhi ho sakte ho... parr boyfriend... hahahah", both of them burst into laughter.

Dev had never felt so free before, as he laughed uninhibitedly. So this is how it feels like to be totally into the moment and enjoying it with the one you love. It's a nice feeling  he decided.

They reached home and Sona helped put Dev into bed and ensured he took rest of the medicine.

Dev didn't want Sona to leave so she sat there until he fell asleep, tousling his hair. Before she realised, tiredness engulfed her and she was sound asleep right next to him still in the seated position.

Dev was jolted awake when he heard noises downstairs. He woke up and rubbed his eyes. He looked at the bedside clock in confusion and was shocked to see that it was already past 10 AM. He pulled the covers and was even more shocked to see Sona sleeping peacefully. She looked like an angel, he reached out and touched her face and she stirred in her sleep. He wanted to kiss her. Last night he had found love after days of internally battling it, and he felt wonderful!

"Deeevvv...betaaa...", he heard his mother's voice from below.

"Oh crap! Sona utho, wake up jaldi!", he shook Sona awake and she almost fell over.

"Kya what..kya chal.. kahan main ..umm... kaun..", Sona rubbed her sleepy eyes totally confused.

"Sona, ye main kaun hoon kahan hoon karna band karo aur jaldi utho, maa wapas aa gayi hain aur neeche se awaaz laga rahi hain. Kisi bhi waqt yahan room mein aa jayengi, hum unse kya kahenge??", Dev panicked.

"Oh no.. ek minute.. aap darwaza lock kar dijiye andar se please... main thoda sa tayar ho leti hoon.. aap bhi office ke liye tayar ho jao super fast, aur jab koi nahin hoga to main neeche bhag jaoongi as if main wahin kitchen mein thi, aur aap neeche aa jana , jaise aap der se uthe hon. thik hai?", Sona said.

"Okay, but hurry up!"

Ishwari knocked on the door, "Dev beta kahan hai tu gaya nahin office?".

Dev cracked open the door and said "Maa tu aa gayi? Main bas tayar ho raha hoon maa, kapde badal raha hoon. Office ke liye bahut der ho gayi na. Abhi bilkul time nahin hai! Maa tu jaldi se jaa, main bas aata hoon."

Oh God so this is what a heart attack feels like, htought Dev, as he slumped against the door.

He changed into his formals at lightening speed. Sona also came out of the bathroom. 

They looked at each other, and smiled and hugged. "Good morning Dev.."

"Good Morning Miss Bose...", Dev teased.

They quickly surveyed and when no one was around, Sona slipped out the door and headed downstairs.

Just as she reached the lounge area, Mami ji caught her.

"Arre bangalan, tu aise choron ki tarah yahan kya kar rahi hai? Aaj subah se tujhe kitchen mein to nahin dekha.. kahan thi?"

"Ummm... maamiji main wo chart bana rahi thi, aur abhi kichu bhaiya ko sab samjhane jaa hi rahi thi."

Ishwari comes out and says, "Kya maamiji aap bhi hamesha usko sawaal poochhti rehti hain..wo apna kaam janti hai"

Mamiji leaves.

"Auntiji aapka trip kaisa tha? aapne thik se khaya na? kuchh bahar ka zada to nahin kha liya?"

"arre beta bahut hi achha tha, aur tune sab itne pyar se pack karke jo diya tha, main kaise na khati? hmm."

Just then kichu bhaiya comes in and asks Sonakshi, " Didi ab Dev bhaiyaa kaise hain? kal raat ko maine pareshaan nahin kiya so gaya tha, ab unki tabiyat thik to hai na?"

Ishwari is shocked hearing this, "Kya? Kya hua Dev ko? Kya bol raha hai ye Kichu? Nutrition tune mujhe phone kyun nahin kiya? Dev ki tabiyat kharab ho gayi? ghar pe koi tha bhi nahin .."

"Nahin mummyji doctor didi thi na!", Kichu chimes in.

Sona throws him a look that could have killed and signals him to stop and go. Kichu looks guilty.

"Kichu bhaiya aap auntiji ke liye juice bana dijiye aur sabke liye nashta laga dijiye jaldi se jaake.", Sona says. Then she turns to Ishwari who looks angry and suspicious. Oh no, how do I handle this now?!

"Auntyji wo kuchh khaas nahin, wo Mr. Dixit ko halka sa fever tha to wo office nahin gaye aur koi ghar pe tha nahin to maine thoda extra time ruk gayi thi bas. Koi pareshani wali baa thi nahin thi na .. to.. main.."

"Pareshani wali baat thi ki nahin ye main tay karoongi nutrition tum nahin. jab mere bete ki baat ho to   tumhe mujhe phone kar lena chahiye tha na?"

"hayyeee...aur tum kyun rukogi raat bhar?? Akeli ladki aisa achha lagta hai kya? Jiji ye log kya kahenge..", mamiji was back in the room hearing all the commotion and who could stop her from adding fuel to the fire?

"Kin logon ki kya baat ho rahi hai?", Dev entered the hall.

Ishwari feels his head and hugs her son out of concern. "Beta par tujhe kya ho gaya tha, tu thik to hai na?"

"Haan ma, I'm fine. Kuchh nahi hua mujhe. Bas halka sa fever tha, Miss Bose thi na ghar pe, akela thode na tha. Aur kichu bhaiyya bhi to the. Ghar se hi kaam kar liya. Na aisa kuchh pehli baar hua hai aur na hi main koi chhota bachcha hoon.. so please.. itna sab kehne sunne ki zaroorat nahin. Aur Miss Bose thodi der ruk gayi to ye unki achhai hai, isme koi pahad nahin toot pada mamiji. Log kyun kuchh kehne lage bhala? Aur kehte bhi hain to mujhe ya aapko isse koi fark nahin padna chahiye.

Jaiye Miss Bose aap apna kaam kijiye. I'll see you later in the evening, okay?

Aur maa, main office ja raha hoon bahut der ho gayi hai aaj. Tujhe call karoonga office se hi thik hai?"

He touches both Ishwari and mamiji's feet and walks off. As Sona watches him leave, he turns and gives her a wink and a smile and she smiled back. She felt like flying on clouds. 

Suddenly she was aware of Auntyji and Mamiji's stares but somehow the smile still played around her lips. 

"Auntyji, aap thak gayi hongi na? main nashta aapke room mein bhijwa deti hoon.. aap thoda sa aaram kar lijiye. ok?", Sona said.

Ishwari smiled and said, "Thik hai. Waise Dev ka khayal rakha tune iske liye thank you. Main pareshaan ho jati hoon tujhe to pata hi hai Dev ko kuchh bhi hota hai to.. bura mat maanna haan?"

"Arre nahin nahin Auntyji, aisa kuchh nahin, aur maine kuchh bhi aisa thank you bolne layak nahin kiya. Dev.. aahh....I mean Mr. Dixit bilkul thik hain. Aur main aapki baaton ka bura nahin maanoongi par shart hai ki aap aaj aaram karengi!", Sona made Ishwari go to her room and helped settle her comfortably on her bed.

Ohh how would she wait until the evening to see her brand new boyfriend !
