The wind recklessly whips through my hair as the boat surges forward. "Woohoo!" I yell excitedly.
Riley echoes my excitement.
We're currently riding on my family's boat, just me, my mom, and Riley.
Riley picks up where our conversation left off before the boat's engine roared. "I mean, we'll still hang out obviously." She nudges my arm. "You're my best friend. How could we not?"
I grin and nod my head. "Yeah, just because you'll be in high school doesn't mean anything will change." I continue on, more sure of myself. "We'll hang out every day just as we did this year!"
Riley lets that melodious laugh come out of her lips and nods.
But I wasn't done yet. "We'll study together. We were in different classes this year, and we did it, so why not? We'll go to Riley's place a lot. Oh! And we'll continue our cooking challenges!"
Riley continues nodding her head. And right in that moment, I'm reassured that we'll stay best friends despite her switching to high school.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
