Dad just stared silently at the flowers in my hand then his eyes moved to Tyler and he straight up scowled. That's great.
Tyler and I sat down at the table where my dad was already sitting. Tyler sat across from me and my parents sat across from each other. An uncomfortable silence settled over us as we waited for mom to bring the food from the kitchen.
"Hello, Mr. (Y/L/N). Thank you for having me," Tyler greeted formally right as I was about to say something too. The silence was terrible.
"Hello, Tyler. I didn't expect to ever see you again."
"Yeah." Ty looked away from my father and to me, "I realized how wrong I was to (Y/N) and I really want to make it up to her."
Right then mom walked in with the roast she'd made. She put in in the middle of the table and took her place across from Dad. "Dig in guys."
Dad put some food on his plate first, mom grabbed some next, and I offered for Ty to grab his before me but he insisted I went ahead. He was trying hard to be polite, it was nice.
Another patch of awkward silence settled over us. The only sounds were the clanking of silverware on plates echoing through the room. We finished dinner and mom brought out a cake she'd baked for dessert.
"So how was PAX, guys? What all did you do there?" My mom asked, trying to ignite a conversation.
"Well," I began, "we stayed in this really nice hotel with all the guys-"
"Did you share a room?" Dad butted in.
I look at him and scrunch up my face, "I think maybe some of them did. I had my own room." Well, at least at the beginning of the trip. That wasn't a total lie. "Anyways, the actual thing was really awesome. There were tons of new games and systems and software to check out. It was great, wasn't it Ty?"
"Oh yeah," he agrees. "It's a gaming youtuber's dream."
"Mhm, and it was really good getting to see all the guys and meeting the fans."
My mom asked, "How was that one friend you were excited to see? Um, Brian?"
I tense up and frowned a little. I did not want to think about Brian. Nope, no thanks. I was still upset at him and I'm sad I lost him as a close friend.
"Um..." I don't know how to respond.
"Did something happen?"
"He tried to get me to go on a date with him and when I wouldn't he..." I sighed, "He kissed me in front of Tyler to make him jealous."
"What?" Mom frowned, "He seemed like such a nice boy. I'm sorry honey."
"That's ridiculous, why would he do that?" Dad questioned.
I looked across at Tyler then back to Dad, "Tyler and I had been... talking again and I guess Brian just got jealous of him."
"Why would Brian be jealous of him?"
"Dad," I said sternly, "You know Tyler and I have history. We share something."
"Share? Present tense?" He quickly turned to Ty, "What exactly are your intentions with my daughter?"
"Um," Tyler stumbled.
"You don't have to answer him," I said, sending a scowl at my dad.
"No, it's okay (Y/N)." Tyler assured me. "My intentions are to make everything better. I know I seriously hurt her and I let it go on for too long. I honestly really care for your daughter, Sir, and it kills me to know I was the reason she's through so much heart ache."
"Then where were you?" My dad challenges.
"Honestly..." Tyler said, "I was trying to figure out if there was any way she'd let me come back and make it up to her."
