For the first time since Tyler broke up with me, my father didn't have a snide response. He was actually... silent. Needless to say, I was freaking shocked. Who was this man and where did my father go?

Dad just sat there staring at Tyler, and Tyler stared back confidently. I kept looking back and forth, not knowing what exactly was happening or if I should do something.

"Um..." I tried, not knowing at all what to say. "Dad?"

He ignored me and spoke right to Tyler. "Why wouldn't you try anyway?" He said.

"I was scared," Ty admitted. "I'd pushed away the best thing in my life and I was scared I'd messed up so bad that it was gone for good, that she was gone for good.

"But I've realized my mistakes, Mr. (Y/L/N) and I really sincerely want to make it up to her."

Everyone's eyes locked on my Dad. He was tense, very tense. A lot of time went by before he said something.

"(Y/N), you are an adult now. I can't make decisions for you. I have such a strong opinion because I want you to be happy. If he can make you happy, and you are willing to give Tyler another chance then I can't object. I'm not happy, and I'm very critical of him, and he'll have to show that he's changed-"

"I am," Tyler interjects, "I will. I promise."

My dad gives Ty a stern look for interrupting him and goes back to addressing me, "But you're allowed to do whatever you want."

Everyone awaited my response, but I was speechless. I did not expect that from him, not at all. What was I even supposed to say to that?

"Uhhh," I stalled uncertainly. "I want to give him another chance. I kind of already have."

"Fine, if that's what you think is best." I nodded in response. "I'm still going to be on him. That's just how it's going to be for a while." Dad stood up after that and walked out of the room. I could hear him stomping up the stairs and a door shut loudly.

"He's a drama king, Tyler," Mom said comfortingly. "He'll warm back up soon, alright?"

He nodded politely, "Thanks you, Mrs. (Y/L/N)."

"Of course," she smiled warmly. At least someone was going back to normal. "Should I bring out the cake I made?"

"Um, I'm good on cake," I said, my appetite having been ruined. "Ty do you wanna walk to the park with me?"

"Yeah, that sounds nice." Ty thanked my mom for dinner and followed me out the door.

We walk in silence down the sidewalk towards the park. He holds my hand loosely and I hold his back.

I didn't even know what to think about this whole discussion myself. We were just starting to get back into things. And, although things were settled with my dad, it made me realize we still had a lot to talk over on our own.

We reach the park in a few minutes and take seats on the swings. There are a few kids playing around, but it's pretty much empty otherwise.

"I think we should really talk about things." I suggested. I could feel my insides already tearing apart even though it was just Ty.

He nodded in agreement, "Yeah, just kind of settle it all once and for all so we can get back to normal?"

"Yeah."

"So, where do we start?" He asked.

I smiled lightly at him. Where do we start?
