Dusty Road

Faded city jungles, the concrete of my life

I've loved and lost so many faded beauties in my life,

I've travelled the whole world over,

 Got sand between my toes,

 Got Aussie in my bloodstream,

 Got the dusty road.

I came on out from England, dusty coat upon my back,

The wife she had thrown me out, given me the sack

I flew, I sailed, I sank, I swam 'til I reached the Aussie shores.

Scurvy, rats and poisons had eaten all my stores,

I stole, I robbed, fantasisied just to stay alive

I fought the outback rangers to make something of my life.

Out on Corio I fought to save my skin,

I fought the natives and the locals,

I fought the weather coming in.

I'd fought the toughest oceans and the wind,

I fought battles with the troopers

I fought to stay alive in the country of my kin.

Life is a journey, a fantasy to behold,

A dusty road to somewhere, it never grows old.

When you are on your journey,

 Always remember where you've been

Keep that dusty road of memories safe for your kith and kin.

In Victoria I've dug for gold and emeralds,

I've lost count of all the claims I have ever sold,

I've culled camels at Coed Pedy

I've driven the Great Ocean Road

I took the oath of allegiance, proud and bold

(And) I'll fight to stay an Aussie when I'm grey and old.

That grand old dusty road has kept me safe from harm

Its taught me to learn to love this country as my own

Old Aussie will be there for you when all is said and done.

I've travelled the whole world over,

 Got sand between my toes,

 Got Aussie in my bloodstream,

 Got the dusty road.
