"I'm sorry, Luna. It was your father's idea, and you know how persistent your father can be." My mother uselessly apologized to me, leaving out the part where she agreed to it, because she's a selfish hag who bases her life upon what everyone will think.
Mother continuously apologized to me, occasionally letting out fake sniffles for effect, while she brushed my long brown hair. All the while, I stared at myself in the mirror. I wasn't ugly, of course, but I never thought myself as very pretty.
She stared at me and met my gaze in the mirror, then sighed.
"You're so beautiful, honey."
I rolled my eyes and stared down at the ground. There was a short awkward silence, followed by a quick intake of breath from my mother as she began to speak.
"You leave tomorrow morning. Pack tonight."
She then set the brush down, and stormed out of the room, sniffling and beginning to tear up.
They were sending me away in less than a day.
