"Dad, can Hazel and I go to a party one of our friend is hosting?" Nico asks, leaning onto the kitchen counter.
"That depends. Who is it, and will there be anyone you like there?" Our dad answers, staring us down like we're hard-earned criminals. My dad is, well, a bit over-protective. Okay, a lot overprotective.
"Dad, it's just Connor and Travis. If we can go, could I stay at Reyna's house afterwards?" I ask, nervously messing with my hands. I have a small bit of anxiety, and my dad being a police officer doesn't exactly help. He's always searching for a reason to punish me, and it's not like I'm a bad kid.
"Fine, you kids can go. Nico, be home by midnight. Hazel, you can stay at Reyna's, are Katie and Rachel coming?" My dad asks, relaxing a little bit, but not much.
"Yeah, I think so. Rachel and Percy just broke up." I say, not bothering to lie to my dad about this. He would find out eventually, and if I didn't tell him, I might get in trouble for lying. It's just better this way. Right?
"Okay, have fun. Is someone available to take you guys or....?"
"Yeah, I can probably get Reyna to take us." I say, starting towards the stairs.
"How are you getting home, Nico?" Our dad asks.
"Could I go over to Percy's?" Nico replies, though I don't think he really wants to go to Percy's. He used to have a crush on him, but he got over it when Percy and Rachel started dating. It's probably an excuse.
"Sure. I mean, he is going through a break-up right now, and he might need a friend."
I rush up the stairs, getting out my phone as I reach my room.
I can come tonight. Can you give Nico and I a ride, though?
Yeah, of course, Hazel! I'm glad the jailer let you out of the cage.
Reyna and I text. I smile, setting my phone down onto my bed, looking into my closet for something cute to wear. That's when I notice the giant cut on my leg. It must be my soulmate's... He must've fallen hard, as I think it's going to scar. So, I put some tights on under my skirt, so that my dad won't worry about me.
Well, I guess it's time to go....
