How To Save My Life

She only said sorry
Like it was a last resort
Because deep down
I knew she didn't care.

He said he would never hurt me
But physically, he'd never.
Mentally,
That's how you cut the deepest.

Another friend gone
A ghost of the past
A reminder
Why to never trust the mass
Because the lies they speak
Are everyday

And if only then had I known
What to avoid
What to conquer
And what to cure
Because then my friends,
I'd know how to save my own life

Because words broke me
Not people
Not sticks
Nor stones
But tone of voice
And angered speech

Because if only
I'd known this
So I could save my own life.
