What Happened Between Us

When Dan woke up he was wrapped in familiar arms, his own arms wrapped around the bare torso of another person. He looked up, not surprised to see that it was Pj. He looked at him, his eyes tracing over his peaceful sleeping face. He looked like he'd been crying. Dan didn't remember what had happened or how he'd gotten there.

The last thing he remembered was kissing Phil. It all still felt so fresh to him. He could still taste whatever chapstick he was wearing, still feel his hands on his face. It couldn't have all been a dream, could it?

He looked around a little more. His head was hurting and there were beer bottles scattered around the room in various places. So they had been drinking. Their clothes were thrown in different directions across the room, and it was at the point Dan noticed they were both completely naked.

What the fuck happened.

Pj stirred slightly, his eyes fluttering open and closed as he pulled Dan closer. "Morning." He mumbled into Dan's shoulder.

"Morning." Dan mumbled back, his face pressed into Pj's chest.

Pj pulled away from Dan, playing with the hairs on the back of his neck as he ran his hand up and down his body. "So, you remember anything from last night?" He asked.

Dan shook his head, fingers tracing a star shaped group of freckles on Pj's chest.

"Well, when I came in you were making out with Phil." Dan's face burned bright red causing Pj to chuckle and stroke his cheek.

"I was pretty upset. Got into a huge fight with Ethan, so Phil politely left. He was nice to do that as I basically barged into your room."

Dan nodded.

"We drank a bit too much, stripped and went to bed. Nothing bad happened Danny I swear."

Dan nodded, cuddling into Pj's chest.

"You know I love you, right? No matter what happens." Pj mumbled, running his hands through Dan's hair.

"I love you too Pj. I love you so much." Dan responded, pulling away and placing a kiss to Pj's cheek.

"We should probably take a shower." Pj sighed, rolling out of the bed and pulling Dan Dow with him.

"But I don't wanna move." Dan whined, wrapping his arms around Pj.

"I'll carry you then."

"Fine. But you're taking it with me."

"That was the idea." Pj smiled, picking Dan up bridal style and walking them to the bathroom.

An hour later they had finally taken a shower and gotten dressed. Dan had pulled on the first clean pair of clothes he could find, which happened to be all Pj's, causing the older boy to laugh at him. Pj just gave up and put on the same clothes he was wearing the day before, not caring about the comments he would probably get about it. Now they were ready and were headed down for lunch with everyone else.

"Coffee?" Pj asked as they slid into the booth.

Dan nodded, yawning and rubbing his eyes. Pj chucked, ruffling his hair before standing up and walking towards the counter for food. He was greeted by the chef with a smile, not even having to give an order before she got to work making food.

"Pj."

Dan could see Pj visibly tense at the sound of the voice.

"Ethan."

"Look, babe, I'm sorry. Just let me explain."

"I'm not going to hear it Ethan."

He looked about ready to throw the tea he was holding at him.

The cook gave Pj their tray and he walked back to the table, slumping down across from Dan.
"Pj, what did you guys fight about last night?"

Pj sighed, rubbing his forehead with his hand. "You. We were fighting about you."

"Me? Why were you fighting about me?"

"Because friends aren't as close as we are Dan." Pj snapped. "And I don't know what it is, but, fuck, Dan, he thought I was cheating on him."

"With me? Pj that's ridiculous. We've been friends for years."

"And I tried telling him that but he's convinced himself otherwise." Tears were forming in his eyes and Dan knew he was about to start crying.

"Pj, I love you, okay?" Dan said softly, grabbing his hand over the table.

"Yeah, yeah I love you too Danny." Pj said so quietly he could hardly hear himself. He rubbed his thumb over Dan's hand in circles before looking up.

He leaned over the table and kissed him. It was nothing. It didn't mean anything but a simple I love you. It was nothing like what Dan and Phil did. It was just friends. It couldn't have been more than just friends. Friends could be as close as them. Ethan was wrong. They knew better than to ever fall for one another. It was just a friendship, nothing more. It would never be anything more. Dan didn't think of him that way and Pj felt the exact same as him.

Pj was kissing him to make himself feel better. Dan was being a good friend about accepting it. That was how this worked. That was how this would always work.

And Dan didn't buy a single word of the bullshit excuse he was giving himself about why he was kissing back.
