Chapter Seven:

Eshe stared at Cyro waiting for his response to the roller coaster story he'd just told him but he just sat there looking straight forward. It was obvious he was really trying to calculate the entire situation before he replied and Eshe was thankful that he was. The fact that he was probably the least judgmental of all of Eshe's friends made it even harder to tell him what was going on, Eshe couldn't help but worry that this was the one thing he would judge him for.

"So let me get this right: Alice started getting curious about her father, and Lauren tipped off Alice that you knew more about her father than you claim, because she was the only one you confided in that you were in a relationship with this guy, but when you got pregnant you two broke up and you pretended that Alice was the result of a one-night stand?" Cyro frowned slightly, shooting Eshe a questioning look. "Is that right?"

"Yeah basically."

"Okay, well, I'm sure you thought you were doing right by Alice and just trying to protect yourself but the one thing I've learned about kids is even if they have a pretty stable parental status they always seem to want to know more, you know what I mean?" Eshe shrugged slightly at Cyro's question causing him to turn more to him as he began explaining. "Like Maxine loves me and I love her, she's me and Vance's little princess, we do everything we can to make sure she knows how much we love and care about her but she'll still ask about her mother. Renee is such an awful woman, I don't understand why Maxine even cares, but out the random she'll just ask to call her mom or go see her, even though the woman is a total bitch to her."

Cyro rolled his eyes at the thought pushing a hand through his blonde hair, his eyes looked a pale shade of blue as he focused them back on Eshe and for a moment Eshe smiled at the trivial fact that his friend's eye color seemed to change so often. The room settled into a comfortable silence between the two as Cyro played nervously with the wedding ring on his hand, clearly embarrassed by his small rant about Maxine's mother. It wasn't a secret that he didn't care for the woman but he still got embarrassed when he allowed himself to rant.

Eshe thought on his words though, in truth it wasn't so strange for Alice to want to know about her father, he knew that. It was just the idea of having to talk about him, having to see that man again and deal with the things Eshe had left unfinished between them. He didn't want to be in a situation like Cyro, sharing his daughter with people he couldn't bear to be around. The idea was enough to make him want to dismiss the subject all over again.

"Do you think I should find him? How do I even tell Jerome?" Eshe sighed looking at his friend, he had basically told everyone who needed to know except the two people who probably needed to know the most. The father and his fiancee, he shook his head at the thought he could hardly believe he was even contemplating this.

"I think you should talk to Alice, explain to her that you and her father split ways, and then ask her if she wants to meet her father just make sure to explain that you may not be able to find him. I think she'd understand." Cyro replied smiling warmly reaching across the couch to take Eshe's hand in his own. Eshe couldn't help but smile back at his friend as he nodded hesitantly. In his mind he was telling himself that this was the best thing for Alice, reminding himself that this is what his mother would do in his situation. The thought of that made him smile again, he could be as strong as his mother, and this was definitely going to be a step in that direction.

"You're absolutely right, I'll tell Jerome after me and Alice decide what to do." Eshe nodded, standing from the couch as he used his grip on Cyro to pull him up as well. Cyro squeezed his hand in response before pulling Eshe towards Maxine's room, where the girls had disappeared to earlier that evening, he held his hand even as Eshe followed willingly behind him but Eshe didn't mind it was calming to know his best friend would be there beside him during this.
