Millicent Maxine Devereaux
Born - October 31, 1910 Disappeared - October 31, 2000
Millicent wasn't a spoiled child, but she did live a pampered and guarded life. Her father and mother doted on the pretty little girl for good reason; Millicent was the oldest of six siblings and the only Devereaux child to live to live to see adulthood. This made her the sole heir of her Daddy's vast fortune.
Maxwell Oliver Devereaux
Born - July 29, 1888 Died - April 14, 1969
Maxwell was a brilliant industrialist and self-made man. He started his career in Atlanta, Georgia. He made his living by buying up vast quantities of cotton, sugar, tobacco and the like from surrounding farms. He processed these raw goods in factories (that he owned) and turned them into products that were sold to big department stores up north. He had a talent for making money and invested in several enterprises that proved fruitful (oil, gold, silver, steel, land and more). It is estimated that by 1920, Maxwell was worth well over eight hundred million dollars.
Charlotte Magnolia Millner Devereaux
Born - December 6, 1890 Died - March 6, 1972
Charlotte was raised in the Antebellum style of the old South, but this did not mean she was delicate. Charlotte's people were descended from good stock, stout farmers and adventurous pioneers. She was a smart, no nonsense kind of woman who truly was the "woman behind the man." Maxwell's success was largely due to the intelligence and tenacity of his wonderful wife.
Even though he was a very busy man, Maxwell always took time out to dote on his only daughter. One very special afternoon in 1923, he took her to see "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." During this movie a tiny seed was planted in Millicent's young mind.
That was the very beginning of what would become Darkland.
