Non-Pessimistic Poem

Sometimes I don't want to laugh
Sometimes I don't want to sing
It's not cause I'm a pessimist
I just don't like pretending

That everything's fine when it's not

That Mother hadn't passed away
That Daddy hasn't practically faded to grey
That I almost have zero friends
And still don't know where my life ends
That I don't know just what to do
Or even know who to turn to

Trapped in a whirlpool of mystery and strife
Anybody else would just say, "That's life!"

But not me

Never me

You'll never hear me say it, no-sir-ee!

So maybe I don't like to laugh!
So what if I don't like to sing?
It doesn't make me a pessimist
I just don't like pretending
