The kiss

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I clung onto my pillow. The only secondary school experience I had wanted was my prom and now that was ruined too. I looked up as I heard my phone buzz.
Calum: Get dressed and come downstairs. I frowned.
Me: No. I'm sick of this happening, I'm not going.
Calum: Yes you are. Get dressed and come downstairs. I groaned before putting on my dress and my makeup. I sniffed as I headed downstairs. The sadness quickly lifted as I saw Calum stood there in his tux, holding a red rose. I smiled.
"What's this?" I asked.
"Your date is an ass so I'm taking you instead." He smiled. I squealed before taking the rose and tightly hugging him.
"You're an amazing best friend." I sighed before letting him go.
"Come on, let's go." I smiled as I passed him.
"Wait, you're forgetting something." He spoke as he took my wrist. I looked at him.
"What?" I asked. He smiled before sliding a corsage onto my wrist.
"Okay, now we're ready." He smiled as we left the house.

Calum and I walked into the hall where our prom was being held.
"Wow. This looks stunning." I gawped.
"Not as stunning as you." He smiled down at me.
"Shut up." I chuckled, jokily pushing him slightly.
"Come on, let's get some punch." He smiled, taking my hand and leading me to the table. He poured us each a cup and handed one to me. I took a sip and my face immediately screwed up at the bitter taste.
"Wow, someone definitely put vodka in that." I gulped.
"More the reason to drink it then." Calum joked. I chuckled at him.
"Bottoms up." He smiled, holding his cup out.
"God you're such a dork." I laughed, tapping my cup against his and downing the rest of the punch. He returned my actions and put our cups down.
"Let's dance." He smirked, wriggling his eyebrows at me. I laughed as he took my hand and led me to the dance floor. He put a hand on the small of my back and took my hand in his other. I smiled as I rested my head in the crook of his neck, letting him sway us gently to the sound of the music. I closed my eyes, letting myself sink into the feeling of Calum holding me, his scent of chocolate and mint filling my nose.
"This is so nice." He mumbled into my hair before placing a kiss on my head. I looked up at him and smiled.
"It is, isn't it?" I mumbled. He nodded and looked at me, his eyes drifting subtly between my lips and my eyes. I smiled at him before placing my head back in the crook of his neck.

Calum and I stumbled into the house.
"Come on." I chuckled, trying to lead drunk Calum up to my room so I could at least get him to sleep.
"I'm coming for you." He laughed as he ran up the stairs. I laughed too, playing along as he practically chased me into my room. I turned around to face him but he kept moving forwards until my thighs hit the bed. I squealed as we collapsed onto it, Calum pinning me down with one hand on my waist and the other by my head, supporting his weight so he didn't crush me. We just stared at each other as Calum's face gradually inched closer to mine.
"God you're so beautiful." He whispered. I smiled at him.
"I picked the right person to fall in love with." He admitted. I chuckled at him.
"You're drunk, Cal." I sighed. He paused before tipping his head slightly from side to side.
"True, but tomorrow I will be sober and I will still love you." He drunkenly giggled. Suddenly, he leant down and pressed our lips together gently. I returned it, putting my hand against his cheek to bring him closer. I broke the kiss and looked at him before looking down.
"What's wrong? Do you not want this?" He asked.
"No I do but...you don't." I muttered, looking back at him.
"I do Y/N, that's why I kissed you-"
"No, Calum, you kissed me because you're drunk." I sighed. He just looked at me.
"This is all I've wanted since we first met but you're drunk beyond belief and tomorrow you'll wake up and you won't remember this ever happening and if I tell you we kissed, you'll say that you shouldn't have done that and you regretted it and-" I stopped myself as I began to choke more and more. He just looked down at me with heartbroken eyes. I sighed as I moved from underneath him and sat up. He sighed as he lay back on the bed.
"At least let me fall asleep with you in my arms." He muttered. I gave him a small smile before laying back too and resting my head against his chest.
"I'm sorry." He muttered.
"So am I." I whispered.
"Goodnight Y/N."
"Goodnight Calum."

I opened my eyes and looked around. I looked up at Calum to see he was still fast asleep. I sighed, tears pricking my eyes at the memory of last night. I gently eased myself out of Calum's grip as I sat up. I sighed as I stood from the bed and got out my flannel and shorts before trying to unzip my dress.
"Fuck." I muttered as I couldn't reach the zipper.
"You've got to be kidding me." I groaned.
"Need some help?" I whipped around to see Calum now awake.
"I didn't wake you, did I?" I asked sheepishly. He shook his head as he stood up.
"Nah, I've been awake since six, I was just resting my eyes." He shrugged as he came behind me. I turned back around and my breath hitched slightly as I felt his hand on the back of my neck. My throat dried as the zip moved down, followed by Calum's hand running down my naked back.
"Y/N, you know about last night?" He said.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"I remember everything. The kiss, you saying it was because I was drunk, you stopping me...everything." He admitted. My eyes widened.
"And I meant everything." He spoke.
"What?" I choked.
"I love you. I knew what I was doing last night and I meant to kiss you." He muttered. My throat dried at his words.
"Um, Y/N?" He asked nervously.
"Y-yeah?" I asked.
"You don't have a bra on...you know that right?" He stuttered.
"Yeah, I know. I'm going to take my dress off now." I muttered.
"Um, okay, I'll turn around." He mumbled. I took a deep breath as I peeled my dress off my shoulders. I looked over my shoulder to see Calum's back turned to me as he looked down. I quickly pulled my shorts on before pulling on my flannel and buttoning it up.
"I-I'm dressed." I muttered. I turned around and gasped as I walked straight into Calum's chest. I looked up at him to see our faces were only inches apart.
"I'm going to kiss you again, so you know I meant it." He whispered before pressing our lips together. I quickly returned it and held his face as he gripped my hips. He broke the kiss and looked at me.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" He asked. I nodded before kissing him again.
