this is the story of a girl
who felt so out of place
from the tenderness of her
blossoming, curious years...

to the midst of an inner
third world war
that was the beginning
of adulthood

she never spoke loud
nor did she ever took much space
she let people talk
and she did the listening

she listened to pop music
dreaming of better times

she scribbled fragile tales
and artful imaginations on
scraps of coloured paper

she glanced at ugly class pictures
of her, wanting to scream, to set them on fire

she wasn't the strongest
but she wanted to change the world
nonetheless

now she never speaks loud
nor does she ever take much space
but she's better now
and she trusts her gut

she listens to soothing music
still dreaming of better times

she scribbles better built tales
and soulful reveries on
blank, impatient walls

she looks at old class pictures
of her, wanting to go back, to that time where everything was so simple

she isn't the strongest
but she still wants to change the world
nonetheless
