i like to start my sentences with 'and' when i write of you
if i start with 'and' it's like we never stop but only pause for a short breath
like those soft inhales and exhales i use to count while you slept
because if i begin with 'and' then you and i can continue without stopping
and if our memories could be strung together into one long run on sentence
we wouldn't even need commas because i would rather struggle for breath than have us pause for only a second
and i could begin with the first time we kissed
or the first time you picked me up
or maybe the first time you allowed me crawl into the hollow parts of your chest
and i could pretend we are woven together in a chain of 'ands' and you will always care for me
and if i continue to speak of you only in terms of 'and' you and i will never cease
and i pray you won't forget me with a period but you'll remember me as a run on sentence
so you can't catch your breath when you think of me
