Chapter 28 - Nobody's Joining the Police Force Just Yet

"Why was Dad crying when he left on the rolling bed?" Lincoln asked Erin and Jay as they tucked them all into bed.

"Well, your daddy is sick so he went to the hospital to get all better. And he was crying because he didn't feel too good." Jay told him, Russell beginning to cry.

"Hey, Russ, why're you crying? Your daddy's going to be okay." Erin assured him, pulling him into her lap.

"I don't want daddy to die like mommy did." Russell cried into Erin's chest, breaking her and Jay's hearts.

"Hey, your dad going to be okay again. He is the toughest guy I know." Jay told them.

"Will, fix me. I got kids and parental duties to fulfill. I can't be in a hospital." Adam told Will as he checked his vitals.

"We're getting you up to surgery in 15 minutes, so just stay strong until then. And don't worry about the boys, Jay and Erin will take good care of them. You gotta get better before you can take care of them again, though."

Adam nodded before suddenly becoming violently ill, vomiting all over. Will called April and Ethan in to help him.

Will put his hand on Adam's forehead and turned his head towards him to put on an oxygen mask.

"We're going to take you up to surgery now. You'll feel better soon, Adam."

The next morning, all the boys were already awake when Erin and Jay got up. Erin started breakfast and Jay kept the boys busy.

"Uncle Jay, come look at what I built for dad!" Ben called, sounding excited.

Jay found him in the office, Legos scattered everywhere.

"Look what I made!" Ben cheered, holding up a Transformer that he built out of Legos.

"Whoa dude! That is awesome!" Jay told him.

"Yeah and its Bumblebee, dad's favorite Transformer! When can we go see him?"

"Will, hey, where's my phone?" Adam asked as he woke up to Will checking his surgical incision.

"Here." Will said, handing it to him from its spot on the food tray.

"Thanks." Adam mumbled before dialing Jay's number.

At the first ring, Jay answered.

"Hey buddy, how're you doing?" He answered.

"Ya know, I'm fine. How're the boys?"

"Great. They are loving that Erin and I are here, but they all really miss you, Adam."

"Please bring them in today. I have to see them. I haven't gone many days without seeing them and I need them more than they even know."

"Hey, we'll be there soon."

"Dad! I made you Bumblebee out of Legos!" Ben called as he ran into Adam's room.

"Hey, that's awesome, Benny-Boy!" Adam said, looking at the toy.

"Dad, are you sick still?" Ben asked as Jay and Erin walked in with the other boys.

"Ben, we told you to wait." Erin told him.

"But I heard the room number and wanted to see my dad. Besides, I didn't have to go to the bathroom." Ben defended himself. "But are you sick now, Dad?"

"Not anymore. But I still won't feel perfect for a little while." Adam explained.

"That's okay, we can take care of you." Lincoln stated, hugging Adam.

"Yeah! And I can fight off the bad guys for you! I'll be Uncle Alvin's partner!" Russell called, jumping up and down at the very thought.

"I'll be Uncle Kevin's partner!" Andrew added.

"Okay, okay, nobody is joining the police force just yet. Me and Uncle Jay will watch you guys while you Dad gets better. Okay?" Erin said, the kids nodding and Adam mouthing 'thank you.'
