(A/N: Hey readers, this is my first Naruto fanfiction. Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think.)

I glanced out the windows of the taxi as I saw the passing sign. 'Welcome to Konoha City!' it read cheerfully. I took a deep breath and looked around at what would be my new home. I had made the choice to transfer to the University of Konoha that resided in this city. I was going to be a sophomore at this fairly small university. Butterflies ran through my stomach at the thought of being a new student. I just hope that I'm not overly noticed. I had went to a large university the year before and found that I didn't enjoy the size. So I had decided to try something a bit smaller and more isolated. My uncle had some connections at this university and it was a good quality school that was fairly cheap. I watched the city roll by. It seemed to have a fairly friendly atmosphere. I think I'll like it here. I smiled to myself. I looked down as I felt my phone buzz. I had a new text message from my uncle. 'Good luck with your move in today. Let me know if you have any problems.' I texted back, 'Thanks. I'll let you know how it goes. Love you Uncle Saito.' My phone buzzed again. 'I love you too, Asami. I'm sure you'll do fine.' When I looked back up, I realized that the terrain had changed slightly. It looks like I'm on the school campus now. I started noticing different groups of buildings as the car rolled on. I tried to follow where I was on the school map but I couldn't make head nor tails of where I was. Finally the car came to a stop in front of a couple of buildings. A sign nearby read Student Dorms. "We're here," the taxi driver called out. I got out of the car and went around to the trunk. The driver helped me pull out a couple of boxes and a suitcase. I thanked and paid the driver and he drove off. I looked down at the paper I held in my hands. It says that my room is in the west wing and labeled 50C. I looked up and got ready to set off when I realized a couple problems. First, I couldn't carry all my stuff by myself. Second, while the west wing was easy to figure out, I had no idea where to go from there. I looked back down at my things, contemplating what I should do when I heard a cheerful voice. "Hey, do you need help carrying that?" I looked up to see a blonde young man with blue eyes smiling at me. Standing next to him was another guy with brown hair up in a high ponytail and his hands in his pockets. I smiled at them. "Sure, that would be a great help!" I stuck out my hand. "I'm Asami Kanashe." The blonde boy stuck his hand out first. "I'm Naruto Uzumaki!" "Shikamaru Nara," the other boy replied. I shook both of their hands. "Nice to meet you both." "Do you need help finding where you need to go?" Shikamaru asked as he pointed at the paper in my hand. "Yeah. I figured out the west wing but I don't know where to go from there." I handed him the paper. "That's alright. Just follow me." Naruto grabbed the two boxes and I grabbed my suitcase as we followed behind Shikamaru. "Welcome to the University of Konoha, Asami! Are you a freshman?" Naruto asks. I shake my head. "No, I'm a transfer student so I'll be a sophomore." "Cool! May I ask why you chose to came here?" I shrugged. "I tried a big university and I didn't like it. I wanted to try a smaller and closer knit place. Plus my uncle graduated from here a long time ago." "You said your last name was Kanashe. Is your uncle Saito Kanashe, the famous archeologist?" Shikamaru asked. I blushed a little. "Yeah, he is." I had hoped that my last name wouldn't be recognized but I guess it wasn't a surprise since my uncle graduated from this school. "Who?" asked Naruto. "You know that culture that was recently discovered Naruto?" asked Shikamaru. "Yeah." "Her uncle was the one that made that discovery." "Wow, really? That's really cool," Naruto replies. I blushed harder. We finally arrived in front of a door. It turns out my room was on the third floor. Shikamaru knocked on the door. The door opened to reveal a girl with long black hair with a slight purple tint and lavender eyes. "Hey Hinata, your new roommate has finally arrived." Shikamaru points his thumb back at me. The girl turns to look at me and smiles gently. "I'm Hinata Hyuga." "Asami Kanashe. Nice to meet you." We shake hands. "Where do you want me to put these?" Naruto asks from behind the boxes. "Oh, Naruto." Hinata shyly says and starts to blush. "Hey Hinata." Naruto replies. She blushes even harder and looks down at the floor. I raise an eyebrow. Seems like my new roomie has a crush on this Naruto guy. "Just put them right inside the door Naruto. I can take care of them from there." Naruto nods and sets the boxes down just inside the room. Naruto goes and stands by Shikamaru and I turn to both of them. "Thanks for all of your help guys. I really appreciate it." They both nod. "The west wing is the girl's rooms and the east wings is the guy's. They meet together in the center for a common lounge area and eating area. Our friends and us usually hang out in those areas so if you ever need anything just drop by," Shikamaru tells me. "Thanks," I reply. "I'll take you up on your offer." "Bye Asami, bye Hinata," Naruto says as he waves and walks away. I wave back until they're gone. Then I enter the room and close the door. The small room is split in half with each side mirroring each other. Each side had a bed, a small desk, and a closet. On the left side a doorway led to a small bathroom and on the right side another doorway led to a small kitchen and lounge area. "I hope you don't mind but I set my stuff up on the right side of the room," Hinata told me. "Nope, I don't mind. I'm fine either way." I smile gently at her. She nods and points to my stuff. "Would you like some help with your stuff?" "Sure." We work on unpacking my stuff and it doesn't take long before we're finished. "You don't have a whole lot," Hinata says. I shrug my shoulders. "I lived with my uncle who's an archeologist so we moved around a lot. I'm used to keeping my possessions small." I grabbed the last thing from my suitcase before I shove it in my closet. It was a small picture frame with a picture of a child and two adults smiling. I stare at it for a minute before I set it carefully on my desk. "Is that you and your parents?" Hinata asks. I nod before I smile sadly. "Yeah. That was taken not long before the car crash. They died when I was eight." Hinata looks down. "I'm sorry." "It's alright. It was a long time ago." Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. I opened it to find four girls standing outside. There were two blondes, a pink haired girl, and a girl with dark brown hair. "Hey, you must be Hinata's new roommate!" The pink haired girl spoke up. "We're your neighbors," the girl with the long blond hair said. "Come in and we'll make our introductions," I replied. I opened the door farther and the four girls came in. We made ourselves comfortable in the lounge area. "I'm Sakura Haruno," the girl with the pink hair and mint green eyes said. "I'm Ino Yamanaka," the girl with the long blonde ponytail said next. The girl with the dark hair in two buns spoke up next. "I'm Tenten." Last was the blonde girl with her hair in four short ponytails. "I'm Temari." I greeted them and introduced myself. "So what grades are you guys?" I asked. Tenten spoke up. "Temari and I are sophmores and we're the roommates to your left." I nodded. Ino spoke next. "Sakura and I are roommates and besties and we live to your right. We're also freshmen." She looks to Hinata. "Hinata's also a freshman." "What about you?" Sakura asks. "I'm a sophomore transfer student." I replied. "Well, welcome to the University of Konoha!" Tenten exclaims. "We hope you like it here," Hinata softly speaks. "I'm sure I'll love it." "We're meeting the boys in the dining hall, would you like to come with us?" "Sure." I reply. I smile as we start to head to the dining hall. So far, it's been off to a great start. I hope that we'll all be great friends.

We reach the dining hall and order our dinners. When we grab our plates, I follow the girls as we make our way to a large table with a group of guys sitting at it. The guys are on one end so the girls sit on the other. I end up sitting at the end of the table with Hinata on one side and Sakura on the other. From where I'm sitting, I have a pretty clear view of all the others. "Hey guys, what's up?" Tenten calls out. A couple of the guys call out some greetings. One boy with short brown hair yells out, "Hey, is that your new roommate Hinata? She's gorgeous." I smile and blush a little. Sakura reaches out and puts a hand on my shoulder. "Hey everybody, this is Asami Kanashe. She's a sophomore transfer student and Hinata's new roommate." "Nice to meet you all," I spoke up. "I'm Kiba," the boy with the brown hair spoke up. "Hold your horses Kiba," Ino yells. "Let's go around the table and make our introductions." She points at the boy next to Kiba. "Let's start with you Shino." Shino sits there for a moment before he shrugs. "I'm Shino Aburame." From there, it goes around the table. There was Kiba, Shino, Lee, Neji, Naruto, Sasuke, Sai, Shikamaru, Choji, Kankuro, and Gaara. Oh boy, I thought to myself. I hope I remember all of these names. After the introductions were made, we turned to our food and individual conversations broke out. I carefully watched the group as I ate my meal. I soon learned that Temari, Kankuro, and Gaara were all siblings. Gaara and Sasuke seemed to be the quietest of the group. Kiba, Lee, and Naruto seemed to be the loudest and most energetic. I noticed somewhat of a resemblance between Hinata and this Neji guy. I turned to her. "Hey Hinata, are you and Neji related somehow?" She smiled and nodded. "Neji is my cousin but I think of him more as an older brother." I nodded thoughtfully. I went back to watching the group. Choji loved to eat and Shikamaru seemed fairly laid back. Shino didn't talk a whole lot but when he did, he was very serious like he carefully thought out everything he said. Apparently Neji, Lee, and Kankuro were sophmores like me while the rest were freshmen. I smiled as I realized all of these guys were really good friends with each other. I looked down at my plate a little sadly. I've never made a bond like these guys have. With my uncle's work, we were constantly moving and I never had the chance to make a true friend. "Asami, are you ok?" I looked up to see Hinata looked concerning at me. I nod a little and said, "Yeah, I just realized how great friends you guys are. I've never had friends like that." "Well you do now," Sakura said. I blinked in surprise. "What?" "That's right, Asami. You're our friend now. Believe it!" Naruto yelled from across the table. I looked around in surprise to see everybody staring at me. Some of them had wide grins on their faces. I smiled widely at all of them. "Thanks guys. I'm so glad that I'm your friend." There was a general cheer from the table and the girls decided to call it a night. I went back to my room feeling happier than I've been in a long time.

Naruto's POV

We all watched as the girls called it a night and left. When they were gone, I faced the others. "I call dibs on the new girl." "What? You can't do that," Shikamaru answered. "Besides, she'd never go for a loser like you," Sasuke said from next to him. "Hey!" I yelled. "If anyone is going to win her heart, it will be me!" Lee exclaimed with his eyes shining and his fist in the air. I saw Neji roll his eyes. "You'll just scare her away with your enthusiasm Lee," he said. "None of you guys have a chance! She'll fall for me for sure!" Kiba yelled. "In your dreams Kiba!" I yelled at him. We glared at each other. "This looks like trouble," Sai mumbled. The boys started breaking out into arguments. Shikamaru sighed. "C'mon Choji. Let's go back to our room." Shikamaru and Choji soon left. "I guess this is something Asami is going to have to decide," Gaara spoke quietly. He and Kankuro left with Sai following right after. Neji managed to drag Lee away and the rest called it a night.
