Chapter 7

Lauren's POV

I walk out of the studio where the photoshoot was, I pull my phone out to call Normani.

"Hey, I just wrapped up"

"Ok meet me on 5th Ave and 42nd st, on the side the park is on"

"See you in 10"

I arrive to her the predicted time and hug her tightly, burying my face in her neck; unknowingly taking in her cocoa butter, sugar plum scent. I pull away, hoping she didn't notice.

I've been feeling pieces of my feelings for her slowly come back since we hung out at the AMA's after party. I keep trying to push it away but ignoring the possibility is starting to get hard. She laces our fingers and I have to fight the smile itching to embrace my face.

We walk to a small cafe a few blocks away and sit in the far corner once we get our food.

"What you wanna do after this?" She asks

"Bowling?" I suggest

Just as she nods her head, her phone rings and she smiles at me before picking it up.

"Hey Mickey" She says

"Hiiii Mickey" I smile

She puts the phone on speaker then sets it on the table.

"I'm glad you two are together, I want y'all to meet me at the studio, 440 West 41st Street at 5:30"

"Mickey that's one hour! We wanted to go bowling" I whine

"You two are such kids lol, 6 o'clock room 5; better head out now"

"Ok thanks Mickey, bye" We say

We head out the cafe and start walking towards the bowling alley.

"Mani sweetie, I love you and all but you fucking suck at bowling" I say

She stops walking and just stares at me, I raise my eyebrow and place a hand on her cheek.

"What's wrong?" I ask, my thumb starting to lightly stroke her cheek

"Hmm?" She asks, dazed

"What's wrong?" I ask again

She wraps her arms around my waist and pulls me closer to her, she starts walking with us like this.

"I just missed you" She mumbles

"Why would you cheat like that?" She asks as we walk out the bowling alley

"Sore loser, not everyone cheats just cause you lost" I laugh

"Nah deadass b you mad annoying with that shit yo" She groans

"Deadass? Mad? B? You really are a New Yorker now" I smirk

"Don't mock my newfound accent" She laughs

"How's the rats?" I ask

"Very funny, don't believe the New York haters; it's actually really only in the subways mostly" She says

"Noted" I say

"How far is the studio from here?" I ask

"Walking distance, about 5 blocks" She says

"We've been walking everywhere and I'm surprisingly not tired" I say

"Traffic is everywhere, the quickest is walking surprisingly" She says

We arrive at the studio and head to the given room, walking in we see Mickey sitting with two other people. We make ourselves known and they turn to face us.

"Oh my fucking gosh Jude and Ammo!" I yell

They chuckle and me and Normani start a short fangirl moment, we quickly collect ourselves and Mickey introduces us.

"I think it would be great marketing if you two do a song together, the beat fits you both and if it's good you do one or two more for y'all albums" He explains

"That sounds good" Mani says

I nod my head and we sit on the couch.

"The song is already written and the beat is already set, you two can look it over and decide if you wanna keep it or add anything" Jude says

She hands us the sheet of paper and we look it over, deciding it was fine we hand it back to her.

"Ok Lauren you go in first, start off with the first verse" Ammo says

"Remember sing from your diaphragm, you keep forgetting" Mani says

"Thanks" I smile

"Lauren you have the first verse, the pre chorus; Normani you have the second, the second pre chorus, and both of you do the chorus together" He says

"Alright Lauren add some ad libs and you'll be done, do it however you like" Jude says

"Don't hold back" I say, walking up to Mani

"You tend to forget to show your beautiful voice"
