Chapter 13

A few days later...

Riker POV

I was taking Ava out for dinner tonight, and this time, we were taking my car and we were going to a place that I chose.

I was still a bit annoyed with the whole situation from a few days ago, so this time, Ava can feel how I felt.

I knocked on her door, and she came out.

"Hey, Riker."

"Hey, so um... I was thinking I could drive this time. I want to take you somewhere in particular tonight."

"Ok."

I opened the car door for Ava, and then I got in.

"So where are we going?" Ava asked.

"Just this place that has a bunch of types of burgers."

"What!?"

"Look... I've seen what kind of world you live in, with all that fancy stuff I can't read in french. I just thought it was only fair for you to see my world."

"Riker-"

"Just try it, ok? I promise you can find something you'll like."

"Fine..."

I smiled a little, and continued driving.

When we got there, I walked inside, holding Ava's hand. We got seated quickly, and were given menus.

"Pick anything you want. Dinner is on me," I said, happy because everything wasn't a bajillion dollars.

"Riker, everything sounds greasy and gross."

"No, you've got it wrong. Greasy doesn't mean gross. I mean, not usually. It means really really tasty."

"Riker, I don't know about this."

"How about I help you pick something?"

"I'm not getting soda. Do you know how much sugar is in soda?"

"How about you get a strawberry smoothie, ok? That has fruit."

"Fine."

"And... We could split a burger if you want."

"Sure, whatever. I don't really care. You can just pick whatever you want."

"It'll be good. I promise. Just give it a chance."

I ordered, and noticed Ava had her arms crossed and looked annoyed.

"Ava."

"What?"

"I'm sorry, ok? I just thought it was fair that you would see the kind of places that I eat at, ok?"

"Whatever, Riker."

"Come on. You can't be mad at me."

Ava rolled her eyes. I sighed. I'll just wait until our food comes. Hopefully she'll like it. I don't know what I'll do if she doesn't.

Finally our food came. Ava wouldn't make eye contact with the food. She's being so ridiculous.

I cut the burger in half, and moved some fries over to her side of the plate.

"At least try the food. Or at least your smoothie," I said, starting to eat.

Ava just sort of stared at me.

"Come on. Please? Try the smoothie first. I bet you'll like it."

She slowly picked up her drink, and took a sip.

"What do you think?"

She took another sip, and looked confused.

"What is it? If you don't like it, I can get you another one."

"No... It's really good."

"Oh... Well good! Um... Maybe try the food...?"

"Fine... But only because this tastes literally so good."

Ava picked up a french fry, and ate it.

"What do you think?"

"Really good."

"Yay! Told you it was good!"

"You're right. I should've believed you."

"I'll only forgive you if you give me a kiss. Right now."

Ava leaned over the table and kissed me.

"Alright, I forgive you."

"You're such a goofball, you know that?"

"Mhmmm."

We finished our dinner. Ava seemed to really like it, and I was glad.

I drove her back to her house, and walked her to the door.

"Thanks for giving the food a chance," I said, kissing her.

"You're welcome. It was actually really good."

"I know, right? That's why I love eating there. Would you maybe want to go there again sometime?"

"Sure."

"Awesome."

The front door opened, and I saw her father.

"Ok, bye," I said, quietly.

I got back in my car and drove home.
