"I spoke to God today and she said that she's ashamed
What have I become.
What have I done
I spoke to the devil today and he swears he's not to blame
And I understood 'cause I feel the same." Edward's eyes were burning as he played, his fingers moving deftly. All of the deaths he had caused or failed to prevent had caused this song.

"Arms wide open
I stand alone
I'm no hero and I'm not made of stone
Right or wrong
I can hardly tell
I'm on the wrong side of heaven and the righteous side of hell
The wrong side of heaven and the righteous side,
The righteous side of hell..."

There was a pause in his singing where he closed his eyes and sighed softly. He wouldn't, couldn't, look at Mustang as he continued to play. Perhaps he should have never picked up that guitar all those years ago.

"I heard from God today and she sounded just like me
What have I done and who have I become
I saw the devil today and he looked a lot like me
I looked away, I turned away!"

Ed furiously blinked away tears, not allowing them to fall in front of the bastard.

"Arms wide open
I stand alone
I'm no hero and I'm not made of stone
Right or wrong
I can hardly tell
I'm on the wrong side of heaven and the righteous side of hell
The wrong side of heaven and the righteous side,
The righteous side of hell

"I'm not defending
Downward descending
Falling further and further away
Getting closer every day

"I'm getting closer every day
To the end, to the end, the end of the end
I'm getting closer every day

"Arms wide open
I stand alone
I'm no hero
And I'm not made of stone
Right or wrong
I can hardly tell
I'm on the wrong side of heaven and the righteous side of hell
I'm on the wrong side of heaven and the righteous side of hell
The wrong side of heaven and the righteous side,
Righteous side of hell..."

Molten eyes burning, Ed glared harshly at Mustang. "There, Bastard. Happy?" He snarled, until he actually looked at Mustang's face.

There was a single, crystalline tear slipping down his face from the corner of one of their midnight black eyes.

Ed's face paled. The song, he knew, could apply to anyone who had failed something, who felt guilt over their mistakes...and the haunted look in Mustang's eyes told of Ishval.

"H-hey...bastard...I'm sorry...I didn't mean to--" He was cut off as Mustang stood abruptly, wiped his face, and left. Moments later, Ed heard the front door open and close.

Ed was left on his own, guitar barely supported by his lightly trembling hands. Setting down the guitar, Ed let the first of many tears slip from his eyes. He bit harshly into his hand to muffle the loud cursing that escaped his lips.

Why the hell could he not stop screwing things up?
