to leave without saying goodbye

❁❁❁

"You can't do that to me!" (Y/N) Deveraux's cheeks were streaming with tears, as she held on tightly to the hand of her lover: Draco Malfoy. She took a glance at him before turning back to her parents. "I love him, he loves me- and we're going to be a family!"

"You are not going to be a family! You're too young and he's not good enough for your hand in marriage- let alone be the father of your children-" Mrs. Deveraux fumed.

Draco stared in horror at the scene unfolding in front of him, unsure whether he should start interfering or not. Even though the situation was about him, he wondered if talking would only make matters worse. The Deveraux parents never approved of him, so his opinion wouldn't even matter.

But this did not mean he was breaking as much as (Y/N) was. This was his child they were talking about. Their child.

"He is good enough, mother! What about our child? Are you going to take him away, too?" (Y/N) cried, all of her wished this was a dream.

"You're not going to raise him." Her father replied, but his expression was blank and his arms were crossed.

"I hate you both! You're evil and selfish, you don't even care about my happiness- only about this ridiculous hatred for the Malfoys who have done nothing! Nothing!"

"The Malfoys have caused trouble for our lives! For Merlin's sake, he got you pregnant!" Her mother stressed. "That child is no family of ours. It is a Malfoy, not a Deveraux."

"I hate you." Was all (Y/N) could say as she buried her face into her hands.

"You won't remember that you do." Her father turned to Draco, who was trying to comfort (Y/N) by holding her in his arms. "You won't remember him."

Draco couldn't take it anymore. He let (Y/N) go and took a brave step towards the Deveraux parents, taking a deep breath to calm down the tears forming in his eyes. "Mrs. Deveraux, Mr. Deveraux, please reconsider this. She's a grown woman and I am a grown man. We can take care of this child together if-"

"The problem is not that, Malfoy." Mrs. Deveraux spat, "The problem is you have ruined our daughter's life. We are going to do this for the benefit of her and our family-"

"The benefit of you and father!" (Y/N) interrupted. "You're actually willing to make me forget the happiest thing that has ever happened to me-"

"Get one of the Healers to give her the sleeping drought, I am done arguing about this." Her mother told her husband, who did as told and exited the room.

(Y/N) and Draco saw there was absolutely no use anymore, they were going to do it anyway. Her mother and father started this a long time ago when they first found out (Y/N) started dating the Malfoy son. The idea of their daughter being with a boy who was not only the son of a death eater but one himself was absolutely horrible to them. They did not want their daughter tainted by the Malfoy name, fearing that it will ruin their own name too.

This was their final fight for their love, and they have lost it completely. No matter how much Narcissa Malfoy tried to reason with the Deverauxes, no matter how much Draco and (Y/N) pleaded- it was never enough.

And now that their child was born, not even that could stop what her parents were about to do to (Y/N).

"Please, at least let me say goodbye- to Draco and our child." (Y/N) begged.

"No." Her mother said sternly. "You won't even remember them once you wake up again."

Draco turned to his lover anyway, looking her in the eyes with his own gray ones and held her hands. "I love you, (Y/N). A piece of you will always be with me, and I'll take care of him."

"I don't want to forget you, Draco." She whispered. "Don't let me forget forever."

"I won't." He said so quietly, that Mrs. Deveraux couldn't hear. "We'll be together as one again soon."

This seemed to calm them both, knowing that perhaps one day it will work out again. But with everything going on, they both knew it was incredibly unlikely.

The click of the door opening sounded, letting everyone know that the Healer was here with the sleeping drought. The Healer placed it on a table before leaving to tend to something else.

Draco didn't want to let her go and stayed there right next to her.

"Drink." Her father demanded, seeing (Y/N) eye the potion with hurt still in her eyes.

"If I don't?" The girl retorted.

"Darling, just make it easy. You know that potion is going to be drunk whether you like it or not." Her mother grabbed the potion and placed it harshly in her hands.

Draco's heart broke into a million pieces as she reluctantly held the potion, studying her parents. She knew they were going to force her to drink it, so she did before they could pain her anymore. Her vision slowly faded to black and she was soon asleep.

"Send him out." Mrs. Deveraux said, gesturing her head towards Draco.

"No!" Draco yelled but was forced out of the room by Mr. Deveraux. The room locked shut after him, and the Malfoy boy couldn't help but repeatedly try to barge in. But he couldn't even unlock the door with the unlocking spell.

Mrs. Deveraux stood in front of her sleeping daughter and pointed a wand directly at her- before casting a spell that would change their lives forever.
