"We child proofed everything, boss, plus I fixed up the guest room into a child's room/nursery," Julia, their maid, said as Shy walked into the condo tossing her keys in the bowl and removing her heels.
She gave the woman a thumbs up as she raced to the bathroom just two seconds away from going all over hersel.
If this baby didn't make her pee all day, they made her eat ten times her weight in food or have morning sickness from Hell. She let out a sigh of relief as the pressure easily dissolved.
"Shy!", Jamal called.
"In the bathroom. I'm finishing up. What's up?"
"I got a lawyer today to help us get rights for Lola. Lucious said that's the way we'd have to go if we wanted her."
Shy washed her hands and dried them on the towel before exiting the bathroom to find her husband.
He looked exhausted and he had tossed his head back with arms spread eagle over the top of the couch. She leaned in and pressed a kiss to his lips before giving him a massage. There was a time when she had be the one getting massages and foot rubs and warm bubble baths but now she made a promise to give back whatever she was given.
"You should have let me handle them. Both of them. I know Lucious will try and scare you into thinking your life will be put on hold with a child but look at me," the brown skinned woman became level with his eyes and sat down beside him on the couch. "We can do this. If you aren't ready for Lola, then how are you ever going to be ready for our child?"
"I still have a ways."
"No, you don't. I have a ways to go seeing as I am the one carrying our child around. But you have to be prepared just like I do. Have you even changed a diaper recently?"
He shook his head.
"Well, you have to practice that. You have to learn how to warm a bottle just right so it doesn't burn the baby because I am not about that breastfeeding life."
"You'd be so good at it though," Jamal tried to sweet talk me but she gave him a hard glare.
Maybe on Shy's third child when she didn't care if her stuff sagged or not but she wanted to stay perky until she couldn't.
"Lola's a child who needs attention and not just material things that Lucious will throw in her direction. I know because I've been there. My parents weren't rich but we were well off and they would buy my silence or pay for me to be sent away. When I met you, I had already been expelled from three private schools. I wanted to be normal. We can give Lola that."
"What about when Olivia comes back for her? Are we just going to hand her back?", he seemed determined to love the little girl for as long as he could but sometimes things were just an opportunity. An eye opener for you in the moment. "What if we don't have the same connection? Our baby... A baby is different than a person who is already here."
"Babies are like a fresh start. Someone and something new for you to experience. They love you just for being you. You don't have to do much to please babies, but Lola... She's something. Her eyes are so adorable that I end up giving her anything she wants. We went shopping the other day and I nearly cashed out on her in every store that we went into. I wanted to say No but the pout was so on point."
"Something like this."
Jamal pouted and his eyes got all big.
"No, her was cuter," she teased throwing a pillow at his head.
He wrapped his arms around her and they rolled around until she had pinned him down finally.
"This place could use a fresh coat of paint and some new furniture. It's hideous," a familiar voice broke them from their happy moment.
Michael, the devil incarnate, stood in their living room with a young, white girl standing beside him with a clipboard. Shy nearly snapped.
"What you doing in our house? Why did security let them in?"
"Jamal, tell her."
"Tell me what?", Shy looked from Michael to Jamal but one wasn't more appealing than the other right now.
"Our community supports us fully and we're looking to make a breakout at the up and coming all white party," Michael informed her.
She laughed so hard.
They stared at her like she was crazy but it wasn't nothing but rage disguised.
"I'm going to let you have your moment and when this is all over... Don't bother calling me."
"Shy-"
"Shouldn't you be calling out Michael's name? He is your lover, right?"
