[The scene opens on a sunny Tuesday afternoon behind May Fields High where the stretch of green grass has been covered by pastel carnival stands. A blonde-haired girl in a faded red tee and denim shorts is bouncing on the heels of her white canvas shoes as if the ground were scorching, up and down with a boundless enthusiasm. It's the dangling displays of stuffed prizes, the blue and pink of freshly spun cotton candy, and the mischievous grin of the brown-haired boy beside her that promises a day of excitement and adventure. After unpacking the last batch of rock candy, he's leaning against the Witschire's booth with a casual coolness.]
❝Nice day for a carnival, huh.❞
❝Every day's a good day for a carnival.❞
❝Everyday's a good day for you.❞
[She shrugs before attempting a nonchalant wink that ends up as an awkward blink.]
❝When I'm with you, of course.❞
[He hides a smile, ears turning a light shade of pink.]
❝And you always say I'm the one with the cheesy lines.❞
❝Just mixing it up little. You're the responsible one now who remembers things like visiting the lab and setting up the booth, while I completely forget and show up like it's any other day of school.❞
❝I mean, it made for a pretty good excuse for the two of us to be out here together.❞
❝I like it. Being a team behind the counter, I mean.❞
❝Not quite.❞
[Her brows furrow in confusion as she peers up at him.]
❝You're not going to leave me for the arcade games, are you? ❞
❝Nope. Well, you'll be coming with me.❞
[Before she can interject that this didn't answer her question, he waves at someone behind her and she turns around to see a familiar face.]
❝Ron! Did Liam tell you about the carnival today? I've been meaning to say we appreciate all of your help with the rock candy!❞
[The man in the polo shirt and khaki shorts offers a fond smile in response to her enthusiasm.]
❝No problem at all, it's my pleasure to help out. You two can run along now and have fun.❞
[He says this with a sage smile. As the news sinks in, Hana's eyes widen while the brown-haired boy stands a few feet away, hiding a grin.]
❝No way, you're —❞
❝— running the booth today. Liam asked nicely and I thought I might help the cause. See what all of the fuss about rock candy is about.❞
