Sophia slid into her desk during Literacy class, hoping she wouldn't get caught by her teacher who wasn't the brightest sun in the sky. Unfortunately, Sophia wasn't that lucky because at that moment, her teacher turned around and glowered at her.

"Miss Baker, I'd appreciate it if when you skipped the first half of class, there'd be a reason and you brought a pass." the teacher leaned forward and picked up a piece of paper off her desk, scribbling onto it. "Detention after school." she walked over to Sophia and slammed her hand down on the desk, leaving the piece of paper. Sophia slouched and leaned on her elbow.

"Your excuse, Peter?" Sophia looked up to see the teacher holding out her hand in front of Peter, probably expecting a pass to land in her hand. But instead, Peter just looked away from her gaze, his eyes landing on Sophia's. Their eyes were locked, but Sophia turned her head away and took a deep breath then turned back. "I'm waiting."

"I don't have a pass. Sorry?" Peter shrugged and was about to walk to his desk when the teacher's hand stopped him.

"No pass..." she wrote another detention slip. "No freedom. Today." she smirked up at him then let him be, walking in front of the chalkboard. "Dismissing our interruptions, we'll have to dismiss our class. Looks like Sophia and Peter are surely trouble, aye?" she smiled and nodded, dismissing the class.

It was 2:05 and Sophia had been making her way down to the Literacy classroom, ready to face her punishment. She stopped by her locker and opened it, a note falling to the ground. She knelt down, picked it up, and unfolded it.

Sleep buds, now detention dorks?

Sophia crumped the note up and anger built up in her vains. She knew who this note was from, and she wasn't happy. Slamming her locker door shut, she got nudged in the shoulder. Sophia turned and crossed her arms, smirking.

"A stupid note isn't going to make me like you." she snarled at him.

"Who said I wanted you to like me?" he held out his hand with a pleading look in his eyes. Sophia hesitated for a second, until the last bell of the day rang and they realized they were late. She grabbed onto his hand and they ran down the hallway, nearly getting to the door when Mr. Baker stopped them.

"Sophia!" he held his hand out to stop them and narrowed his eyebrows. Sophia bit her lip.

"Dad..." Sophia and Peter looked at each other, then down at theirs hands, quickly letting go. "We need to get to detention." Realizing what she'd just told him, she clasped her hand over her mouth.

"Detention? Sophie, you're my daughter, you need to set a good example for yourself!" he exclaimed, disgusted by her behavior.

"Sorry, dad but can you please let us through?" Sophia gritted her teeth and sent him a look with wide eyes. Mr. Baker adjusted his tuxedo and stepped to the side, letting them pass. As they left, he noticed Peter put his hand lightly on Sophia's back as they walked into the classroom and smile down at her. He'd sure to find out about this boy.

Throughout detention, the teacher had gone in and out of the room several times so she was barely ever in the room at all. Sophia found herself talking to Peter for the first time in a long while. They were laughing and joking around. She felt a connection with him she hadn't felt with anyone before.

"Would you rather kiss a monkey's butt or be stung by ten bees?" Peter chuckled, thinking this was a tough one and she'd never decide.

"The bees." Sophia said, almost instantly and she clearly wasn't hesitating on her decision. Peter raised his eyebrows and threw his head back, laughing.

"How do you get that so easily?" he smiled at her and sighed.

"If I do the monkey, I could get rabies or something but the bees are okay, I guess." she shrugged and ate some of her leftover lunch.

"The bees hurt, though." Peter rubbed his arm and talked in a quiet voice. Sophia nodded with a smile on her face.

"Do I have your phone number?" she asked him, but quickly regretted it once she saw his face which was of pure humor. "Sorry, I just..."

"It's cool. Why do you want it?" he reached over and grabbed some of her popcorn, stuffing it into his mouth. Sophia let out a laugh,

"You pig!" she continued laughing along with him and then stopped after a while. "Just wondering." she shrugged and turned away from him in her seat and looked out the window, leaning her head on her hand.

"Hey," he patted her shoulder and she turned her head. "Here." he tossed a piece of paper to her, containing his number on it. Sophia turned back to him and put it on his desk.

"It's okay. I wasn't asking for it." she laid her arms on top of her legs.

"But you want it." he gave it back to her. "Just take it, Sophia."

"If you insist." she pushed it into her pocket and slightly smiled at him. The teacher came in and glared at them.

"Time's up. Leave." she gestured towards the clock and faked a smile as they walked out of the classroom then scoffed once they were gone.

Jamie rushed towards Sophia as soon as she slipped through the door. Jamie grabbed her by the wrists and dragged her towards the kitchen.

"Voila!" Jamie smiled at her masterpiece on the kitchen table. Sophia raised her eyebrows and walked towards the cake. It was huge. The top icing was white with pink and purple swirls in a corner. Sophia swiped her finger along one side and licked her finger.

"Wow. You made this?" Sophia scoffed and her eyes gazed over all around it. She had no idea what occasion it was.

"Aren't I amazing?" Jamie hugged Sophia from the side and jumped up and down but didn't manage much since Sophia was nailed to the ground. "It's for you and Jason." she had a huge smile on her face and Sophia's jaw dropped.

"Oh my... I completely forgot!" Sophia ran into her room and rummaged through her stuff. Jamie followed her behind.

"If you didn't get him anything, we can just go to the mall!" Jamie pointed towards the door while Sophia was on her knees, furiously tossing things out of a box.

"No! I remember, we were going to meet at the dock right after school! Darn it!" Sophia stood up and ran her fingers through her hair. "You know what makes this even worse?"

"Oh, now what'd you do?" Jamie's arms fell to her sides.

"Instead of celebrating Jason and my ten-week anniversary, I was in detention and joking around with Peter Canon!" she paced back and forth. Jamie came over to her and held her arms.

"Calm down, Soph. I'm sure Jason will understand!" Jamie smiled comfortingly at Sophia and whispered. "Just call him and go meet him at the dock. Present or no present, I'm sure he'll understand."

So that's exactly what she did.
