+ the difference between therian and otherkin

'therian' (theer-ee-un) is short for 'therianthrope', someone who identifies as an animal either spiritually or psychologically but still acknowledges the fact that they are biologically human. what this means is if they're a spiritual therian, they may believe they were reincarnated into their human body from the animal's whereas a psychological therian identifies as the animal, well, psychologically.

a therian is someone whose theriotype animal has ever existed on this earth and this plane of existence, and this is where the difference between therian and otherkin comes in.

an otherkin person can be any living creature at all, be it a griffin, a wyvern, a dragon, a mouse, a heron, etc., so they are not limited to this plane of existence.

all therians are otherkin, but not all otherkin are therians.

if you are a therian you can still say "I'm mousekin" if you're a mouse therian, basically.
