A smile, a wink.
A hand holding the door open,
as you walk through
and mutter a muffled
'thank you'.
An exception,
since life has been
messy lately.
As always.
But there's just some kindness
in his heart.
A vase of flowers,
sitting on the kitchen table,
lit up by the morning sun.
A cup of tea, to a friend
or a lover, or someone somewhere
in between.
A bit of change, even if
it's not certain the homeless man
will actually use the money
for food.
A small child,
wobbling up to you
and wrapping their tiny arms
around your legs,
looking up at you
with wide, innocent eyes.
It truly is
the small things,
that make all the difference.
