death note rant

Okay so as you know the Death Note live-action came out on August 23rd and is on Netflix and I just finished watching it and I have to say but I am fairly disappointed in the producers as well as everyone else. I honestly have no idea where to start.

but before I do I just want to say the movie was really good and I'm just babbling about minor details so don't attack me. also I am half white myself so when I say these things I'm not saying whites are all bad but I'm just annoyed by these occurences.

ok so this movie takes place in Seattle right? as a resident of seattle, the majority of the people there are Asians. however, the entire cast minus 2 were whites?? the anime is a Japanese cartoon taking place in Japan using Japanese people as voice actors as well as characters. the only difference is that light had brown hair, and misa dyed her hair blonde. yet the producers just assumed he's white bc of his first name & his face. like excuse me a lot of Asians have pale skin. im not one of them bc i tan easily and my ethnic background typically has darker skin than other Asian races ofc, but would it hurt to cast an asian as a main character and not as a sidekick or comic relief??

like in Hawaii five oh, the Asian actors quit the show bc they weren't getting paid as equally as the whites did. Hawaii is extremely diverse and also very Asian but nah the producers ain't about that life. and in iron fist the dude was Chinese and the show is about a white guy in Hong Kong or wherever but a lot of the cast is white as well?? and that just really disappointed me because it's 2017 and you guys are still discriminating people as if it were 1822 again. who cares if our eyes are slanted or if our noses are flat on the east side. who cares if we're Muslim or from countries typically seen as "terrorist hometowns" bc were all human. some nuns can be devout head to toe and no one bats an eye but someone wears a hijab and gets judged?? aaand I'm off topic.

anyways.

a Japanese actor tried to audition as light but the producers turned him down bc they wanted him to be white bc "he looked white in the anime" and "Asians are usually sidekicks"

uhm??

are you kidding me?

they portrayed L as a black man "for diversity" but he suddenly turns into a psychopathic idiot instead of the genius he is. like I understand it's a lot different from the original but cmon. they did watari dirty too don't @ me

and the pronunciation of the names

ryuk was pronounced as "ruh- yuck" instead of "ryook". then ryuk corrected him and he was like "reeyook". ryuk is 1 syllable not 2 sweaty.

if y'all can pronounce Tchaikovsky then you can pronounce ryuk. jus saying. and watari is with a soft t and the a isn't stretched. ik it doesn't rlly make sense explaining it in words but its
"wahtahree" not "waaw-taw-ree" im not even Japanese but I can pronounce it.

so please please pleaseee make an effort to learn to pronounce names.
