Chapter 9

Demi's POV:

I woke up to a scream and looked at the clock. 2:56 Ug.
I turned to Lizzy and saw her squirming and now screaming her head of.

I tried to shake her. No luck. She just squirmed and screamed even more.

"NO STOP!" She screamed

"LIZZY! WAKE UP!" I yelled

She screamed. I sighed in frustration.

I got up and grabbed a bottle of water from the counter. I opened the cap and poured some of the water on her.

She got one last scream out of her then woke up, wide eyed. I could tell. She had fear all over her face.

She sat there breathing for a moment.

"Oh Lizzy" I said as I held out my arms for a hug

She cried in my arms. For the first time I felt like a good mother.

"It felt so real" she said still crying

I burried my face into her hair.

"I know baby. Can- you tell me what it was about?" I didn't want to push it but, I needed to know.

Her breathing got slow and she started to sweat. Great. Just what I needed. A panic attack.

"Lizzy, look at me. Match my breathing. In and out. C'mon baby girl you can do it."

Just as I thought. No luck.

She clenched her throat.
"I can't breath! Mommy make it stop!"

I was proud with her "choice of words"

I began to sing

This is a story that I have never told

I gotta get this off my chest to let it go

I need to take back the light inside you stole

You're a criminal

And you steal like you're a pro

All the pain and the truth

I wear like a battle wound

So ashamed, so confused

I was broken and bruised

Now I'm a warrior

Now I've got thicker skin

And you can never hurt me again

Just as I finished the song her breathing got normal.

"I'm sorry mom" she said tears still running down her face

"No baby girl. Don't say sorry. Everybody gets bad dreams. Even me. Now get back to bed. It's 3 in the morning."

She yawned and fell back asleep.

But I couldn't. I just thought.
