Angela -
By the time I woke up, it was only ten in the morning. Aubrey wasn't in bed, though, so I knew he was already awake, doing whatever it is Aubrey does this early in the morning. I got out of bed, and walked into the guestroom so I put some fresh clothes on. Then I went into the bathroom so I could do the usual. There was no sound coming from inside of his apartment, causing me to believe that he was out. Probably out on a run or something - he does look pretty athletic.
When I came out of the bathroom, I went back into his room so I could lay back down. I wanted to watch TV as well, but the remote was nowhere in sight. I looked under the bed, in his dresser, and even in weird places like in between the mattresses. No luck, though. I looked around the room, trying to find a place I failed to look. Then it hit me. I'm such an idiot. It's probably in the most obvious place - the nightstand. I walked over to it and saw the remote, but I was surprised when I also saw something else.
There was a box of condoms sitting right next to the remote. I was a little surprised, but I remember that this is Aubrey we're talking about. Of course he has, or had, sex before he got with me. When I actually took a look at the condoms, I thought twice about losing my virginity. I mean, it looks fun and all that, and Aubrey's the guy I want to take it, but I'm not sure I'm even ready.
The front door opened, causing me to jump. I quickly pushed the condoms back to where they were and grabbed the remote before sitting on his bed and turning the TV on. Just as I had assumed, he came into the room dressed in basketball shorts and a white shirt - he was sweaty and looked tired, leading me to believe he just got back from a run. "Did you run a marathon or something?" I joked.
"Somethin' like that," he said as he walked around the room, gathering everything he'd need for a shower. Once he was content with what he got, he walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind him. The shower began to run and I began to focus on the TV.
When he was done showering, he came out of the bathroom fully clothed, throwing his dirty clothes into the laundry bin. He walked over to the bed before flopping down. He grabbed me by my waist and pulled me down next to him; I pulled myself up a little bit until I was eye-to-eye with him.
"Can I ask you a question?" I asked.
He nodded.
"How many relationships have you been in?"
Aubrey looked confused. "Why?"
I shrugged. He was right - why was I asking? "I can't ask a question?"
"I don't know off the top of my head. Three serious relationships, I guess."
"What happened?"
"I don't know. The first girl got kind of annoying and Natasha cheated on me," he said, completely leaving out the other girl.
"What about the other one? You said there were three."
"Don't really wanna talk about it. What's with the questions? How many have you had?" he asked, flipping the script.
I laughed before shrugging. "I don't know." He raised his eyebrows. "Just joking. Like you said, I don't know off the top of my head. I guess like a real one, only you."
"Really?"
I nodded my head and looked into his eyes. "So what do you want your future to look like?" I asked. I don't know why I was asking him all these questions, but I guess it doesn't hurt to learn more about people.
He thought about the question for a minute before speaking. "Honestly, I don't know. I want to get married, get a house, have kids... You know, the whole shebang."
"Guess you better start finding someone older," I joked. I wish I could spend the rest of my life with Aubrey but I don't know. It just doesn't seem like reality - he's going to be thirty in two years. In two years I'll be eighteen, going off to college. I'm sure he'll want someone who's older than me and is ready for marriage, kids, and everything else.
He laughed but he eventually ended up frowning. "Why'd I do that?" he asked after awhile.
I shrugged. "'Cause I'm sure you'll want to do all that in the near future, right?"
Aubrey looked deep into my eyes, as if he were really thinking hard about my question. I looked back at him, anticipating his answer. "Not necessarily. I want to establish myself a little bit more, you know?
I nodded my head. We both just sat there for a while, not saying a word. It wasn't weird or anything, though. It was a comfortable silence. After a few minutes, I propped myself using my elbow. "I wanted to ask you if maybe I could try talking to your mom."
His eyebrows furrowed together. "Why would you wanna do that?"
"Because I think that if we both tell her nothing's going on, she'll believe it eventually. I mean, I know we'll by lying, but I'd rather lie and have her not hate me," I explained.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. She's already pissed at me," he mumbled the last part under his breath. I smiled and he grabbed his phone off the nightstand before looking up at me. "You wanted to talk to her now?"
"I suppose," I said.
He nodded his head and put the phone to his ear. I was kind of nervous about talking to her, but I can't back out of it now. "Hello?... Angie wants to talk to you... Okay."
He handed me the phone and I put it on speaker phone. Even though she basically hates me, I hope she can just hear me out. "Hi," I said. My voice was a bit shaky.
"Hello, Angela." It didn't take a genius to tell that she was still a bit sour.
"Look, I know you don't really care for me, but I just wanted to tell you that nothing's going on between your son and I. Not a thing. And I know that you don't believe it or whatever, but I at least just want you to hear me out," I said into the phone.
There was a long pause. I had to check to make sure she was still even on the phone. "If this is true, I'm sorry for overreacting. I guess I was wrong to just assume such a thing," she said.
I wouldn't really sure what to say. "Yeah."
"Anyways, is that all?" she asked.
"Yeah, I guess so."
"Alright, thanks for taking the time to call, Angela. Tell my son I said sorry for the way I answered the phone." I looked over at Aubrey to see him with a small smile on his face.
"Will do. Bye-bye."
His mother said goodbye as well before hanging up. I handed him his phone back before sitting all the way up, resting on the headboard. "We're going to have to tell her sooner than later. I don't think she'd want to find out from anyone else," I told him.
He nodded. "I know, but I think it'd be best to just keep it on the low for right now. I mean, until she gets over this and we're ready to tell her, because honestly, I'm sure as hell not even halfway ready to tell her... And I'm sure you're not either, right?"
I nodded. "No. But I feel bad lying." I've never been one to lie about things. Even over small stuff.
"I know. But this will benefit both us. Just tell yourself that she'll flip out if she ever finds out. You won't want to tell her then, will you?
I shook my head. "No."
"Then stop worrying. Everything'll be alright."
I trust Aubrey when he says that everything will be alright. It's not like she'll find out. I definitely won't tell her and Aubrey doesn't seem like he will, either. As long as we keep out relationship on the extreme low, no one will get in trouble and everything will be all good. Sometimes I just wish that we can get over this age different thing.
As long as I tell myself everything will be good, everything will be good.
