There are two things that act as baits to a reader.

1. The Cover of your book about which I will explain in later chapters.

2. The Summary of your book. (Yes! This is what today's update is about)

The Summary

If you are willing to write, I assume that you must be a reader too. Before buying a book or reading one, you read the summary that is printed either on the back or inside the book.

A lot of website like Wattpad call it the Blurb.

Summary holds a very crucial position when it comes to advertising your book. All of us as authors get one chance at introducing out story to the reader and a blurb is that one chance.

Your summary totally depends on the content of your book.

To be very honest, there's actually no guideline to writing a summary. Some books require more information to be given through the summary, some require quite less.

Yet, there are a few points to keep in mind:

1. English/ Fluency in your language.

Do not! I repeat, do not make spelling or grammatical mistakes in your summary. Remember, first impression is the last impression. (I tend to skip the books that have faulty introduction or summaries)

2. Amount of information.

According to the requirements of your book you can give the type of information you like. But, not more than 200 words, please. It becomes monotonous. Keep the thing short and crisp.

3. Bait.

Yes, you read correctly. Bait! Make sure your summary is so tantalizing that readers are forced to read. Don't give the readers an option to skip your work. You need to need that most of the readers don't make it past the first line of your summary, so make sure it is eye-catching.

4. Use templates.

You can always use a structured model for writing your blurb. Like 1] the problem, 2] the twist and 3] the cliffhanger. You can go old school and write your summary by following the above mentioned three steps.

5. Use Phrases and quotes.

Try and make the readers fall in love with the summary. Search for phrases and quotes or invent them. Make your summary the best piece of work.

6. Give it time.

You shouldn't rush with writing your book summary and for obvious reasons. A book summary can make or break your book. So, after you've done writing the first draft for the summary, leave it for sometime. And when you come back to it, edit if you wish to and even after the time gap you feel that it's good, then keep it.

Some successful types of summaries:
