EIRWEN ASE WAS WELL AWARE of just how weird her name was, thank you very much. It's not as though that observation had also been made by just about every single other person she'd ever introduced herself to ever. Unluckily for her, a weird name was the least of her problems by the time she was thirteen and came to terms with the fact that she was probably never going to be adopted. The foster care system could be brutal and it didn't make any exceptions for girls with weird names and weirder backstories.

NOT ALL THE KIDS in the system could say that they were found abandoned in a park in such an odd way that they weren't even allowed to know how they got there. Not all of the kids in the system were Eirwen, who was technically no longer in the system, given that when she was given up by yet another family she just packed her bags and left. That was two years before everything, and she's gotten very good at many things she shouldn't really be good at, such as lying, pickpocketing, and the art of fitting all of her belongings into a backpack, It wasn't even that big of a backpack, too.

SURPRISINGLY, THIS DIDN'T turn Eirwen into a horribly depressing person to be around, which would have been pretty understandable, honestly. In fact, she was the kind of person that other people enjoyed. She was kind, and funny, and always offered up a listening ear. She was also the kind of person that you could talk to all day and at the end of it all, you still wouldn't know anything about her.

THAT'S THE WAY SHE wanted to be. Eirwen Ase, the girl with the strange name and kind eyes that you never knew anything important about. Being known was something she didn't want to be, not at the homeless shelters she slept at or the pizza place she worked at or anywhere else, for that matter. She was a teenage runaway, after all.

THAT WAS WHY she could slip into and away from places utterly unnoticed, which was not a disadvantage in any way whatsoever. Except when it was. Except when those places she was slipping away from became her home planet. And then, all of a sudden, she was being noticed for reasons she could've never even dreamed of.
