The Woman was holding a child in her womb. It made the Man want to give her something beautiful. During fall, he wandered into the Forest and picked a glowing red crystal from the bed of a shallow stream. The Man fashioned it into a smooth pendant and gifted it to his delighted wife.
It was spring when the baby boy was born. They named him Vanrick. The Woman lovingly put the pendant around his neck, giving him a kiss. They were happy. However, right after, she fainted back onto the bed. Days passed but she never woke up. Everyone but the Man gave up on her. He took care of her sleeping figure. Unmoving, but still breathing. Never ate nor drank, but still breathing.
Breathing.
That was all he needed to keep going.
