Author's POV:

Blue, then black.

The further one sinks in the ocean, the darker it gets. What was viewed as sky blue turns to navy, then darkness takes over all as eyes shut and breath escapes the lungs of man. F/N found himself stuck in a situation identical to this. His body sank and sank, surrounded by the salty water of the sea. Bubbles of air escape his mouth as his eyelids grow heavy.

The frantic movements of his arms failed him in bringing his body back to the surface to catch another breath of air. It all happened so quickly. F/N thought coming to his friend's party boat and drinking himself silly would be fun, but he didn't think he'd fall backwards into the water. With the music blasting so loud and no witnesses to the fall, he was left to die in the cold, shark infested waters. It doesn't help not being the best swimmer either.

So, with arms flailing, F/N sunk into the deep blue with the corners of his vision darkening. He knew that soon he'd only be a corpse floating in the water. The last thing the man could see before losing the battle of staying awake is the image of a long, black fishtail with blue fins and webbing zooming past his face. The creature's obsidian orbs watch as the man's eyes close and his body stops moving. The merman tilts his head curiously as he swims around the sinker's body. The man looks foreign to him, so the creature wasn't sure what to make of him.

'What sort of tail is this?' He wonders as he grabs the male's feet. The action causes no response from the drowning human, whose life is slipping away by the second. The merman then swims up to place an ear against the man's chest, wondering if the creature is playing dead. His eyes widen when he hears the beats slow and skip.

'They're dying. Are they a surface creature?' The merman hums and looks up at the brighter part of the water. He hasn't really been up there, aside from one or two instances where he got curious. The creature's black orbs then fall on the man, but he spots no gills.

'They probably can't breathe.' The merman's webbed claws grip the human's arm before swimming upward at incredible speeds. It only took a few moments to reach the surface, and when he does, he takes a gulp of air through his mouth when his head pops out of the water. The fish man shivers upon breathing in the fresh oxygen. At a time like this, he found himself thankful he can breathe in both air and water.

The merman floats on his back, carrying the man on his stomach. The human still wasn't breathing, though. Soft whimpers escape the nervous creature's throat as he frantically looks around in search of a place he could take the man. In the distance, he could barely make out the image of an island in the east. Acting quickly, the merman grips the male in his arms tightly before zooming through the water to reach land.

He makes it there in under fifteen seconds, but he had pushed very hard to swim so quick. By the time he reached the sandy shore, he was short of breath and sore all over. The fishlike creature drops the man on his back before pressing his ear against the man's chest. There's barely a beat. The creature knew he could transfer air into another, so he presses his lips against the man's to transfer oxygen from his powerful lungs into the the human's.
