Your POV:

With the hot sun shining down on the glistening water of the ocean, I laugh as Neil jumps in and out of the cool liquid happily beside my boat. It's been so long since he's been out here. I'm sure I'd be excited too. It's been about a week since the night I slept beside his pen, and it made me realize that I don't want him feeling alone. He once had a life out here.

It's time to return him to it. Neil has grown too attached to humans, which isn't exactly a good thing. Should he fall into the hands of the wrong people, he likely wouldn't know any better and trust them. I don't want him getting hurt. He needs to go back to being a wild animal swimming in the dark depths of the ocean, where he'll be free to do whatever he pleases. A part of me is hurting, though. I've known Neil a long time, and a piece of me doesn't want to let go, but it has to be done. Just look at him. He's so happy to be back in big waters with all the other fish. I watch as the merman dives again, but he doesn't resurface this time.

I frown slightly as I stop the boat, figuring he's exploring, and wait.

Neil's POV:

I release an excited chirp as I swim deeper and deeper into the ocean, chasing after a fat, tasty looking fish. I want to fill my belly before catching some for Y/N. I capture my meal in my jaws and bite down hard, causing blood to spill from its body. Before I could eat it, though, a glint of something shiny hidden in the sand caught my eye. Curious, I swim lower and sift through the minerals to reveal it.

I pick up a rather large shell in my hands and examine it closely. Shells don't normally interest me, but I remember that a long time ago, when Y/N was younger, she'd wear something around her neck that was made of beautiful shells. They looked so pretty on her. I can still remember the smile on her face when she first showed it to me. The memory made my heart pound harder in my chest. It was then that I came up with a brilliant plan while nibbling on the fish in my mouth.

'Shells will make a much better gift for her than fish. Then, she can keep them forever.' I let out an excited purr by rolling my tongue as I spit out the fish from my mouth. I can eat later. This is much more important. I search the sand with my fingers, finding as many as I could carry in my arms, tossing away ugly ones.

Only colorful, pretty ones are worthy for her. My eyes light up upon finding another large shell, and I reach out to grab it only for a pair of pincers to pinch my finger. I screech in pain and pull away, glaring at the shell that grows legs and begins to crawl away. The shells I had collected sink to the ocean floor, some getting covered by the sand again.

'I don't think so! You'll pay for that!' I grab the shell and crush it with ease revealing the red creature inside that tries to attack me again. Angered, I shove it into my mouth and crunch on its semisoft shell. Actually, it was quite tasty. I lick my lips and reach down to pick up the fallen gifts, but get distracted by a familiar roaring sound. I gaze up and panic upon seeing Y/N's floating device swimming back towards the shore.

'Where is she going?' My heart begins to pound faster and faster as she gets further away.

'She's not leaving me, is she?' Holding tightly to the shells in my arms, I dart up to the surface, chasing after my playmate with incredible speed. I must catch her.
