"Are you ready, my dear? He's here."

Howard Stark's voice snaps Nina out of her thoughts. She looks up at him, watching him pull on his vest and his tie, fixing his clothes.

Howard Stark was a great man, but also an absolutely shitty one. Many times he had tried to push himself on her, and many times she had had to decline. It honestly felt like an insult to her. Seeing Howard mess around with so many brainless pretty girls, it was disturbing for Nina to think he was only interested in her body, which was definitely not all she had to offer. Not that it mattered, anyways. He was human, after all.

"Ready as I'll ever be."

Nina Jones had fought in the army before. Civil War, the Great War, and now this. Although this was the first time the military allowed her to actually fight instead of being a nurse, which was ridiculous if you asked her. Women were just as capable than men, if not more, as she went to prove to them. But that's the kind of treatment she expected for getting stuck on a primitive planet like Earth.

For years she tried to get back to her home. And for years she was unsuccessful. The closest she had ever gotten to her old life was getting the opportunity to work with Howard Stark. Albeit with primitive technology, he was a genius for his time. Of course, working with him wasn't her choice, in the beginning, seeing as she had been laid off and sent to him by her captain. Still, she had come to appreciate it. Working on the "Super-soldier serum" project for Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) with Stark truly helped her get back on her feet.

The initiative was simple: create a formula that would increase the physical attributes of its recipient to the peak of human potential. Had it been too dangerous for the flow of human history, she wouldn't be so involved. However, giving a man some strength shouldn't be too extreme. It was the perfect opportunity for them to give strength and hope to the people, specially in this time of war. They simply had to find the right person.

And that person, according to her good friend Agent Carter, was Steve Rogers.

Nina had been in the army before, and she had fought side by side with Peggy Carter. She was once Sargent Jones, and in charge of her people. This meant she had a large -- and possibly dangerous -- amount of trust on Peggy. So when she told them Steve Rogers was the man for the job, Nina believed her.

What she didn't expect was for this Steve to be the scrawniest man she had ever seen. Not that it would matter for the experiment, it wouldn't. But had she simply ran into him in the streets, she would have assumed him to be a child. Luckily, she'd read the man's chart and seen his picture before meeting him. She wouldn't have wanted to be rude and appear surprised by his physical appearance in front of him.

People of all sorts stood in the room. Scientists, assistants, military. Her Lieutenant General stood behind the safety glass, right next to Peggy, who smiled a her as the man of the hour walked in front of her.

"Good morning, ma'am. My name is Steve Rogers." He extended his hand for her to shake, and she gladly did.

"Nina Jones," she answered with a smile. "I've heard a lot about you, Steve Rogers."

Reposting this because i wrote this in 2015 when I was 13, and I love this story too much to leave it like it was. I'll be going through this whole thing shortly, so expect some changes (hopefully for the better)

Thanks for reading, good day!
