Atreyu- Where are you Dec?

Me- Ashden’s..

Atreyu- Why are you texting me then?

I lift up my phone with fimble hands. I click on my camera and take a picture of all my bloody gore. I send it to him without a second thought.

Atreyu- I’m coming Dec. Just hold on.

I gasp and wheeze. My eyes feel so heavy and sleep seems to be beckoning me near. Atreyu was coming...I just had to wait and hope. That Ashden didn’t come back. That Atreyu actually showed. That everything would be ok.

“Dec!”

Groggily I open my eyes. Atreyu is rushing towards me. I must have blacked out.

“Atreyu…”

“It’s ok.What happened?”

I looked up at him with fearful eyes.Could I really tell him? I was already half dead. Would it really matter if Ashden killed me now? It’d probably be the nicest thing anyone could do for me at this point.

“You told….Why?”

“ Cat told me. But thats not important right now. I need to get you to a hospital.”

“No”, I protest weakly.

“Don’t ask for help if you don’t want it.”

He picks me up gently. It’s at this moment that I realize how much I miss him.

“This is why…”

“Why what?”

“Why I cheated..”

He freezes in his steps. His eyes lock with mine and I can see the gears starting to turn in his head. I should’ve stayed quiet but after so long of being in pain I needed him to understand. There was a reason I was like this. I know I would never be justified for the crimes I had committed. Breaking his heart was something I never wanted to do. But I needed someone to hear me...my story.

“Are you telling me…”

“I’m so sorry..”

“That’s why you cheated on him...With me?”

“This is just another artwork of his.”

“How long?”

“How long?”

“How long has this been going on?”, he starts walking again slowly as not to hurt me in the process.

“Months.” I honestly couldn’t remember when this really started. I just remembered meeting him and then the slow but sure downfall our relationship took.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Why do you think?...”

“Do you love him?”

“Not anymore..”

He walks in silence. I listen to the sound of his feet as they hit the sidewalk. It’s a rustic lullaby lulling me to sleep. I close my eyes and drift off to a better place.
