It was a rare occurrence that Aaron had a day off. An even more rare occurrence? You also had the day off. He had a nice day planned for the two of you that ended with dinner at your favorite restaurant. On days like this, you would sleep in and savor the fact that you didn't have to rise out of bed at six in the morning. However, your cramps had different plans. Their plan was to wake you up even earlier than your usual wake up and wield knives to attack your lower abdomen. You tried getting comfortable again by putting your head on Aaron's shoulder and draping your arm across his torso. You were able to sleep through the cramps for a few more hours before they grew to be unbearable. You sat up in bed and gave up on the opportunity to sleep in. Aaron was no longer next to you which was a little curious since you were usually the one to wake up first. You frowned when the clock on your nightstand read 8:34. Sure it was later than you'd usually wake up, but with cramps as painful as this, you'd rather sleep longer. Next to the clock was a note:
If you're still sleeping before I get back, I went to go get us some coffee and breakfast so we can start our day off together the right way. Love you
Aaron
You smiled despite the pain and appreciated the little things he did for you to make you happy. Coffee and breakfast could have easily been made at home, but he knew you loved it when he surprised you with breakfast from the cafe on the next street over because the cheese danishes were to die for. You started a shower and opened the medicine cabinet to retrieve some ibuprofen. As you showered, you were hoping that your cramps would subside by the time Aaron came home, but you knew when your period cramps were this bad that you would most likely be in discomfort all day. After your shower, you put on leggings and one of Aaron's shirts which ended a few inches above your knees. You heard the door open as you shut off your hair dryer. You made your way out to the kitchen while Aaron was setting breakfast down on the counter.
"Hey, did you see my note?" Aaron asked. You wrapped your arms around his torso and nodded. "What's wrong?" He questioned when he realized you weren't you weren't as excited for the cheese danishes as usual.
"Don't feel well," You murmured into his chest, "So much for a relaxing day off." The ibuprofen wasn't doing too much for you, but you'd be lying if you said that having Aaron with you didn't make you feel even the slightest bit better.
"Aw, babe," He said, stroking your hair. He tilted your head up so you were looking up at him, "Go put on a movie or something. I'll bring breakfast to you." You nodded in agreement and he leaned down to kiss you, stroking your cheek as he did so.
You sat on the couch with your knees pulled up against your chest as you turned the television on. You didn't really have the focus to pay attention to a movie so you turned on some home renovation show that you didn't know the name of. Aaron placed breakfast and coffee on the coffee table before turning to leave the living room. Your brows came together in confusion and you frowned, "Where are you going?"
"I'll be back," He told you, "Don't worry." He gave you a reassuring smile and a kiss on your forehead before leaving you alone on the couch. He was gone for about ten minutes and you were growing impatient because you were hungry, but you also didn't want to eat without him. You were about to get up and see what he was up to when he returned with his arms full of blankets. "I figured you should be as comfortable as possible if you don't feel the greatest," He told you as you stood so he could spread the blankets out on the couch the way he wanted them.
Once the blankets were arranged, he laid down on the couch and motioned for you to join him. You laid between his legs with your back against his chest and pulled a blanket over yourself. "Have I ever told you that you're the sweetest boy in the world?" You smiled, tilting your head up to look at him.
"Frequently, yeah," He laughed. He handed you your coffee before reaching for his own.
"Good. You should know where you rank on the sweetness scale," You told him, leaning up to kiss him. He smiled against your lips and moved his arm around you to rest his hand on your stomach. You both ate your breakfast and commented on the choices made by the interior decorators on the show.
The ibuprofen was doing nothing for you. If anything your cramps were getting worse. You turned your attention back to the television and tried to enjoy your coffee. Aaron watched your face screw up in pain and set his empty cup on the coffee table, "Still hurting pretty bad?" You nodded and he gave you a sympathetic look. He started stroking your hair with one hand and your lower abdomen with the other. The pressure of his large hand against your stomach was doing wonders for you. It was quiet between you for a while, the only conversation occurring when he asked you if you were done with your coffee so he could take the cup from you. His massaging of your torso and caressing of your hair eventually caused you to drift off into sleep on his chest.
When you woke up, there was a stabbing pain in your abdomen. You tried to get up, but Aaron's arm tightened around your waist. He had fallen asleep a few minutes after you did with his head resting against yours. You attempted escaping from his grasp without disturbing him, but you failed and woke him up. He rubbed his eyes and sat up, "What's wrong?"
You shook your head, "Nothing. I'm just going to get some more ibuprofen." You were about to stand up when he put his hand on your arm, effectively stopping you.
"I'll get it. You lay down and rest," He said, standing up before you could protest. You were a fairly independent person who didn't need someone to take care of you like this, but you couldn't say that you didn't like the way Aaron was treating you or that his behavior at the moment didn't make you love him even more. He returned as promised with ibuprofen and water, but also with your heating pad, your prized possession during your period. You smiled as you took the heating pad and pills from him, thanking him with a kiss.
The rest of the day passed on similarly with Aaron doing anything and everything he could for you. It was around four in the afternoon when the comfortable silence was broken. "So about dinner tonight," Aaron started. You turned to look at him and frowned. The two of you had been looking forward to this night for the entire month and then your cramps came and ruined it. You barely got to spend the evening with Aaron and have dinner because both of your work schedules conflicted so much and now that you finally had an opportunity to share the night together, you were ill.
"I don't think I'm going to be able to go out tonight," You said sadly. You really were bummed out. Aaron had been excited to reveal to you that he was going to take you out tonight and you knew he was as upset as you that the plans were going to have to wait until the next day off. You put your hand on his leg, "Aaron, I really am sor-."
"Don't be sorry," He cut you off, shaking his head. He pulled you into his side and kissed your forehead, "It's not your fault." He rubbed the small of your back for a few minutes, thinking about something, "Why don't you go lay down for a bit and if you're feeling better, we'll see about dinner?" You nodded, willing to see if sleep would aid in stopping your cramps so you could go out with Aaron. Just as you stood and began walking away from the couch, Aaron stood too and caught your hand. He pulled you back to him and kissed you softly, brushing your hair back. You wrapped your arms around his neck as his arms settled around your torso, pulling you up to him. "Really, don't feel bad about dinner if you're not feeling well," Aaron told you when he pulled away. You nodded and gave him another kiss before walking off towards the bedroom.
As soon as your head hit the pillow, you were out like a light. You were able to sleep for about two hours before your cramps woke you up again. You stood and walked slowly out of your room so you could reluctantly tell Aaron that going out to dinner tonight wasn't happening. When you reached the kitchen, you saw Aaron setting the table and take out bags from your favorite restaurant. "What's going on here?" You asked, smiling.
Aaron was startled by your voice. "Crap, you were supposed to still be sleeping. I was going to come wake you once the table was set," Aaron said, setting a bottle of wine down on the table. "I thought since you weren't well enough to go out to the restaurant tonight, I'd bring the restaurant to you," He told you. Your heart swelled and your smile spread even wider. "I know it's not the same as going out and it's not as goo-," He started.
It was your turn to cut him off. "It's perfect," You told him, going on your tip toes and kissing him, "You're perfect."
