If you read the chapter before this you would've noticed there is both hiragana and katakana for one kanji...
...Well there is 2 different ways of reading it:
1:
Romaji: on
Hiragana: おん
Kanji: 音
2:
Romaji: kun
Hiragana: くん
Kanji: 訓
...What exactly is the difference?
on:
The Japanese "kanji" is based of Chinese lettering/characters therefore some of the pronunciations in certain kanji is based off of well, China. Therefore on is written in KATAKANA. So technically on reading (on yomi) is the Chinese reading in a kanji.
kun:
Kun (yomi) however is the opposite. It is the native Japanese reading in a kanji. Therefore it is written in HIRAGANA.
However most on yomi has to be with another kanji otherwise we wouldn't understand what you are saying.
E.g.
Mizu (water)(kun yomi)
Sui (.........?)(on yomi)

Suiyoubi (Wednesday)
