Too Long

Even before I knew what the word meant,
I felt it.
Love.
Such a powerful feeling.

When we were little,
It was just a crush.
I thought you were cute,
I tried my hardest to flirt,
I was the only one you opened up to.
As the years went on,
We disconnected..

When we talked again,
It was like no time passed.
I fell in love with you so young.
Thought it would be us,
The best friends that get together.

Yet never thought you noticed me,
Then you kissed me.
Under the stars,
Next to the fire.

You did it again the next night.

And the next.
On the last night,
You asked if I wanted to be with you,
I wanted to scream yes,
I got scared and said I don't know.
You said we could talk about it,
So I tried.

You fell off the face of the earth.
Until you kissed me again.
Then said you didn't want a relationship.

I confronted you,
You said you wanted to wait,
Until after school.

I waited.

And I waited.

For years,

Then it happened. You kissed me.

Now you say to wait.

I've loved you for too long
I can't keep waiting.

I'm letting you go.
I have to.

14 years of waiting.
Loving.
Caring.
It hurts too much to hold on
So I'm saying goodbye.

-The one I thought would be my forever.
