Chapter 12: Free

Sofia's POV

We sat around the table waiting for mom to serve the food. Xan was showing Nicole something on her phone while I just play on mine. "Any plans today, kids?" mom asked

"I'm going out with my friends" said Nicole looking up from Xan's phone then looked back down

"Jake and I are going out" I answered. Xan didn't react at all to what I just said.

Mom placed pancakes on the table "How about to Xan?" she asked

Xan shrugged "I might hang around with you again. Maybe learn some of your delicious recipes" she said biting on her pancake.

Mom petted Xan's head "You're always welcome here" she said, "it's nice to have some company sometimes"

After breakfast, Nicole and I went to get ready while Xan helped mom downstairs. I was just finishing up putting a bit of make up when my phone buzzed

Chewbacca: You owe me for making me wash dishes

I smiled

Me: That's what you get for being a freeloader

Chewbacca: I am offended! Didn't you know I am your sister from another mother and father

Me: whatever you say

After a couple minutes I went downstairs and saw Xan on the couch watching TV again. "Where's mom?" I asked as I sat next to her

"She drove Nicole to her friends' house then she said she'll go buy some grocery for dinner" she said not bothered looking away from the TV "So, what time will Jake come and pick you up?"

"I don't know yet. He said he'll text me when he's near" I told her

She nodded "oh ok"

"So, you're just going to seat here and watch TV" I asked

"Pretty much, maybe I'll go get something to eat later from your fridge" she said still focused on the TV

My phone buzzed and saw Jakes name

Jake: Hey babe, sorry I can't go out again today. The diners pretty busy and mom said she needs my help.

I swear he could just told me that earlier. This is like the third time he cancelled on me.

Me: It's ok.

Jake: Thank you for understanding, sorry babe but I have to go

I sighed and leaned back on the couch

"You sound pissed" asked beside me eating popcorn. Where the hell did she get that popcorn from? And when?

"Jake cancelled" I said grabbing some popcorn

"Ha! Shame" she said leaning on the couch changing the channel

"I got dressed for nothing" I said bitterly

"Wanna go somewhere?" she asked

"Where?" I asked but she just dragged me to their house

"I need to get changed, wait here" she said

After, we got on the car and drove somewhere "Where are you actually taking me?" I asked

"You'll see" she said. After about 4 hours of driving she parked her car in front of a theme park "Where did you find this?" I asked as I get out of the car

"Google" she answered. We payed for our tickets and went inside "Rides then food again or food then rides"

"Rides first" I said.

The rides here are very extreme. They make your insides flip and turn. It's a good thing we didn't eat yet or else everyone down there watching us would be showered with mixed food, drinks and gastric acid. "Let's go again" said Xan excitedly as I leaned on the railing trying to catch my breath and holding on to my breakfast. She chuckled when she noticed my condition "You ok, grandma?" she teased

"Shut up" I told her

"Come on, let find somewhere to eat" she said

I sat on a picnic table under a tree while Xan went to buy us something to eat and drink. When she came back, she set down the things down and sat opposite me "What's wrong?" I asked, "You look like you saw a ghost"

"U-umm... Well, this may be one of your worst day out with me ever" she said

"What are you talking about?" I asked

She glanced at something behind me so, I followed her gaze. I saw Jake with another girl. They were standing by a hotdog stand and flirting at each other. They were very touchy, and the next thing happened draw the last draw. They kissed.

I walked towards them and slapped Jake "what the hell?" asked the girl

"Babe, what you are doing here?" Jake asked

"Babe?" asked the girl

I turned to the girl "You can continue your date" I told her. Xan stood just a few feet away. I grabbed her wrist and dragged her to the car. I opened the door and closed my face. Xan followed inside and sat on the drivers' seat. She didn't say anything and started the engine. I sat on the drivers seat still shocked on what happened. After an hour or something the engine died, and I looked up when someone tapped on my window. Xan signalled me to come out. I went out and saw that we were on top of a cliff overlooking the see. "I always go here when I needed to unwind" she said seating on a bench. I sat next to her. "Shout whatever your thinking here, it'll help a bit" she said.

"Jake!" I shouted, "I hate you!" I added

"I hate vegetables!" shouted Xan

After a lot of shouting we drove back home because it was getting dark.
