Chapter 22

Victoria POV:

I was staring into the mirror, my fingers trying to brush out my hair and failing quite miserably. "We're late." Elijah announced, showing me his phone screen which had the time printed across it in large white numbers. I sighed, removing my fingers from my hair before walking to the bed and pulling my shirt on.

"We are meeting them at the Boarding House, right?" Elijah nodded, picking up the SUV keys and tossing them over to me. I caught them, following Elijah from the apartment and towards the stairs. This was it, tonight I would watch Niklaus be killed, which also meant I would have to see Elena die and hope she didn't come back a vampire.

I haven't always been this protective of anything, not even of myself. Elena was my niece which meant if she died I would have failed my family altogether by allowing their bloodline to end because of Niklaus. We were a cursed family, we always would be. This was the life of a Petrova, somehow we were all aware of the supernatural and it started with me. I was the one that gave up my family to allow a curse that should never be broken, get broken.

Conversations with Rebekah about the curse were my main way of getting the information on it, they were my main way of getting information on anything. It was hard to think that I would never be able to have those conversations anymore. "Why don't you just get your family back?" I asked as I pulled myself from my thoughts. It would make much more sense for Elijah to do that than killing Niklaus.

"He buried them in the oceans." He replied and my mouth began to dry again, I completely understood why Elijah was doing this. Hope for a duo ion with my friends was shattered, they'd never be found. "After I kill him, that is where he will go as well. Straight into the oceans where nobody could ever stumble across him."

I looked back to the road and placed my head against the window. "Killing Niklaus shouldn't be your only option, Elijah." I told him, exhaling slowly as the skin making contact with the window began to feel cooler. "He's your brother and he's the only family you've got left." I explained, taking my head off the window to look over at him. "You know I don't expect this from you, right? If you don't kill him, I won't resent you for it. I know Leigh has betrayed me before, but I see her now and I don't even know how I could bring myself to want her dead."

"Leigh?" My head snapped to the road again, realizing Elijah had no idea that Leigh was my sister. They had never even met each other in person, sure Leigh knew who he was because of her time in my head, but he didn't know her.

I scrambled a quick explanation, reminding myself that there was no way I could explain that she was my sister. Especially with what Elijah was planning to do today. "She's that friend I was telling you about, you'll meet her at the Boarding House."

"The sacrifice is completed in stages as the full moon sets." Elijah explained, shutting the door of Elena's car with a slam as Stefan, Leigh, Alaric and I joined him. Riley had stayed home, there wasn't much she could do in this situation anyways. Then there was Sylvester who we were meeting here, apparently he'd been on witch patrol. "First the werewolf is killed, then the vampire and finally, the doppelgänger." He went over the proceedings, none of which were news to me, as we walked towards the abandoned house. "Once Elena is dead, the curse will be broken. Klaus will become hybrid."

I shiver at the word 'dead', I could see Leigh pressing her lips together as well. "So when do we attack?" Alaric asked causing all vampires to turn to him as he walked a few feet behind us.

"Elena's death will activate his dormant werewolf side." Elijah spoke, causing yet another shiver to shake my body. I didn't like the thought of Elena possibly turning into a vampire, we had Bonnie looking for something, but that didn't mean she would find anything. "He'll be vulnerable during the transformation. That's when Bonnie comes in."
