(Kay's POV)

I was taught from day 1 that everything happens for a reason.

As a child, my parents were ashamed that their son was born as a weakling- not worth the love and care they could've gave if I had been born as a healthy and strong child. This might sound as a joke but even my name was just brought out of thin air- I mean, Kay? Without outing every person who has the name Kay, an awesome name I must say, but my parents did not put any thought into coming up with a name for me, they just "okay"-ed.

I walked around the cabin, looking at different decorations lying around the room- some were like children paintings, other were collections of dried flowers and leaves on top of a paper, this is the traditional "cabin in the woods" if you ask me.

As I was pacing around the rooms, the fox kept following- "what was your name again?" I asked him as I kneeled down to pet his head , after taking a few moments to remember the fox's name I finally said it "Faolan, right." He rubbed his head against my hand and started walking towards the exit.

I looked outside the stained window to see that the sun sat down again- 'time flies' I thought to myself as I exited the room and went to living room. The living room had nothing special- the entire cabin had a wooden tone and there was no electricity, something that you wouldn't see today-I tried to remember what happened and suddenly felt a burning sensation in my stomach, 'oh right' I thought as I pulled my stained shirt and jacket up to reveal stitches .

3rd person POV

Kay got shot and knocked out in the battlefield, leaving him out cold lying on the ground while hundreds of people were either running forward to attack or backwards to defend.

Kay fixed his shirt and jacket and opened the window to let some fresh air in- after a hot sunny day the cabin savors all the heat that was outside during the day but it was unbearable after staying in the cabin the entire day. Kay didn't know why he didn't go out and try to find a way to return to the base but then again- the place wasn't familiar to any of the areas Kay was sent to patrol. Sure, people would say that you can't notice any difference between forests but after visiting so many, Kay learnt the difference between forests that are located in the north, and forests that are located in the south.

The humidity is key- his mentor once said on their way to the base after an expedition. Kay snapped out of his thought as the door slammed shut, he turned around to see Adrian, all covered in blood. "What the hell happened?" Kay asked as he rushed to him to make sure that he is not hurt, "Oh-.. umm, hunting" Adrian answered with an unsure tone, seems about right since there are no groceries stores around the area to get food, Kay nodded and walked back to the small couch under the window and sat down. "How did it go? where is the 'prey'?" Kay asked not looking at Adrian, Adrian suddenly sighed heavily and started to walk towards Kay, when he suddenly stopped and changed his direction towards the kitchen.

'Weirdo' Kay mocked Adrian's behavior as he paid attention to the small storage area under the wooden stairs, Kay hummed as he made his way towards the small wardrobe to find some of the sun clan markings on it. 'What is that, why is it here?' Kay questioned himself, his throat started to get dry and he felt shivers running down his spine. 'Adrian, what the hell are you hiding?' Kay asked when suddenly he jumped slightly from Adrian placing his hand on his shoulder. Kay turned around to see Adrian holding a tray with two beers on top of it and he wore his "innocent" smile.

"Let's talk" Adrian said as he started to make his way towards the sofa Kay was sitting on before. Kay hesitated at first but followed shortly after, "Lets."

Kay sat down and looked around the area to see all the possible ways to escape in case of emergency. "Why are you so tense? here, grab a drink." Adrian said as he grabbed the beer closest to him, "I'll pass" Kay said. He was suspicious that Adrian is hiding something based on the marking he found on the wardrobe. "So, Kay, Tell me about yourself and how come you have the 'magic born' marking on your wrist?" Adrian asked as he took a sip and looked at Kay, 'Do I avoid this question, tell him the truth or lie' this was the conflict Kay found himself in. Kay doesn't know if he should trust him based on the fact Adrian lets him stay over at his place for the time being till Kay recovers from the wounds he got or be suspicious of him because of small enemy markings he saw on Adrian's wardrobe.

"I don't think I can answer that." Kay simply answered and scooted a bit further away from Adrian, this was getting uncomfortable- the awkward silence filled the room and all you could hear is the ticking that came from the huge grandfather clock that was on the other side of the room. The chilly air filled the room with the scent of freshness and Adrian suddenly stood up and walked towards the kitchen. 'I swear to god, if I don't get out as soon as possible- I will die' Kay panicked in his mind as he heard footsteps coming back from the kitchen. Kay looked up and saw that Adrian brought some 'snacks' to go together with the beer. Adrian sat down and took another sip from the beer and paused to think. "Hmm, well, if you can't tell me that- tell me, where are you from? " Adrian asked as he took some snacks in his hand, Kay thought it was an opportunity to investigate who Adrian actually is. "Moon city originally, been travelling around lately due to the 'conflicts' that were happening", Adrian paused and looked at Kay confused "What conflicts?" he asked as he paused munching on the snacks, "Oh right, how could YOU know about the conflicts that are happening" Kay answered "Well, the moon clan and the sun clan had conflicts for over 200 years now, nobody knows the cause for those conflicts but everyone assume that they started because of the separation between the ground 300 years ago. About 10 years ago, both clans decided to make clear borders between the two grounds and the civil rights in both clans started to become more broken and restricted." Kay paused to look at the drink, he couldn't risk it, not yet. Adrian nodded in understanding and sighed "so what is the deal nowadays?" Adrian asked, he actually was curious- as if he never heard of the news about the outside world. "Well, now is happening what everyone knew that those conflicts were leading up to- war." Kay finished and finally gave in, he took the beer bottle, opened it and took a sip, relaxing his muscles.

After a few backstories and drinks, Kay was leaning over the couch and ruffled his hair, he sighed and started laughing "can.. can someone tell me?" He struggled to speak clearly, suddenly his vision went blurry but Kay ignored it- thinking it was the booze hitting him but after trying to take couple steps towards Adrian, he started to lose sight, fainting after asking the one question that was circling on his mind,

"Why me?".
