With almost anything you do, it's important to do at least a little research into a subject so that you don't end up hurting yourself. The same is true for crystals! Not every crystal is alike, they all have varying chemicals and make ups. For some it's safe to put them out in the sun, and for others they'll fade if left in sunlight.

It's better safe than sorry to spend a few days learning about any crystals you're interested in before you get them. Two common crystals are: Clear Quartz, also known as "the master healer", is one of the most common crystals used in the craft today. Like it's name suggests, if you want to get a healing crystal but can't decide then this should probably be your first! It's a good crystal overall. Good for grounding, cleansing, healing, of really anything in your craft if you don't have a different specific crystal. I know for sure that in tumble stone form, this crystal is safe to put in your mouth or put in water, the former for...whatever reason you have (I won't judge) and the latter to make crystal elixirs. It doesn't give off toxic chemicals from what I've learned. It's also safe to put this crystal in sunlight and moonlight to charge and/or cleanse.

Rose quartz, a cousin of clear quartz and the go-to crystal for spells involving love. I am uncertain if this crystal fades in sunlight, but I know that it's also safe to put in water for elixirs and is also a good basic crystal to have. Many practitioners have testified that this crystal is good for love: Romantic love, platonic love, sexual love, self love, etc.

Here is a short list by tumblr user @sundriedelf on a few crystals and how NOT to charge or cleanse them. Crystals that can't be charged by sunlight are on the list normally because they will either crack or the color will fade from them. Some crystals are also water soluble and give off toxic chemicals when in contact with water, like Lapis Lazuli. Again, this is a list on crystals and how NOT to charge them. Do not charge them in these ways! There are other ways to safely charge and cleanse, such as singing to them or playing your favorite music for them. And if you have carnelian, that is a self cleansing crystal that can cleanse others by being put near them.
