Rain fell down in the alleyway, echoing through it. There was a dead silence in the air, as if the sound was hanging in the air, waiting. Taehyung dropped the knife, interrupting the silence, his hand shaking uncontrollably. He felt as if his heart had stopped. He stared into nothingness, his mind completely blank. The last couple of seconds had gone by too fast, he had reacted out of instinct, he did not want this to happen, why would Jungkook... The girl yelled and put her hands over her mouth, hovering over Jungkook's body that had fallen on the ground.

"Fucking do something!" she yelled, snapping him out of it, momentarily forgetting that the knife had originally been targeted at her.

Taehyung dropped to his knees beside Jungkook, his hands shaking too much for him to be of any help. He could barely breathe, his heart was beating so fast he thought he would die of it. He tried to think of something, but he could not. All he could do was watch the growing bloodstain on Jungkook's shirt. Normally, he would have liked it. However, Jungkook was not 'normally'. This was not what was supposed to happen. He bit his lip, his eyes were looking around for an answer, clueless, lost. The girl took off Jungkook's hoodie and held it against the wound, pressing down on it. You can't protect anyone, you only hurt the ones you love, a voice snarled in his head. He put his head between his hands, cradling himself. The girl looked at him, also terribly confused and panicked.

"Now is not the time to freak out Taehyung! Get your car! We have to bring him to the hospital!" she yelled, her voice cracking.

Taehyung clumsily got up and pulled Jungkook off the ground, movements mechanical.

"What are you-" she started.

"Can you shut the fuck up for once in your life and let me handle this?" he spat, his mind starting to work again.

She helped him, dragging him into the diner. The woman yelped as she saw them, dropping the dishes she was carrying. She shot questions at Taehyung, to which he did not respond. Words were scrambled inside of his head, thoughts pitting against each other. The two sides of him were in a heated debate, clawing at one another's faces. The girl answered the questions vaguely, said he was mugged in the alleyway. Taehyung thanked her for lying with a nod, to which she replied by looking away.

She motioned for them to make him lay on the bench and fumbled through her things for her first aid kit. She silently prayed for all the gods to spare this poor boy, to give her the chance to save him. She could not see this happen again. She would not let her son die in her own hands again. She asked for Taehyung to press down on the wound as she prepared her supplies.

"It does not seem like any vital organs were hit," she said with a sigh of relief. "Thank God."

Taehyung swallowed, trying to hide the extreme panic he was feeling. For once, he was the scared one. A weird feeling to him. He had not ever felt scared for years now. Was it because it was Jungkook? Did he care about him? Of course you do, you fucking idiot, a voice spat in his head. He did not want to believe it. The last person he cared for was the girl, and before that was his own mother, too long ago. What the fuck was going on? What was changing inside his mind, inside his heart?

They both watched as the woman worked her magic, stopping the hemorrhage, cleaning up the wound and stitching it up. She finally put a bandage over it, rolling it around Jungkook's waist. She sighed when she finished, relieved.

"He's out from shock. He should wake up soon. Make sure he is comfortable when he is," she said, worry in her eyes.

"Yes, thank you," Taehyung murmured as he picked Jungkook up in his arms, not caring how heavy he was.

He carried him to his car, followed by the girl. All he wanted to do was bring him back to his place and take care of him. He had done something he told himself he did not want to. So much for protecting him, another voice reminded him. He shook the thought away, trying to repress what he had done.
