"Do they have coffee here?" Arden asked as she stepped off the RV and into the very bright and brisk Tennessee morning. Chris was wearing sunglasses and standing beside the vehicle, making sure everyone gets off since they won't be stopping again for awhile.
"No, but there's a coffee maker back inside and I brought everything we need to make it."
"Even my creamers?"
"Yes, especially yours. You would have thrown a hissy fit otherwise."
"You're so right." Arden agreed before walking to the rest stop's bathroom. The line inside wasn't long, but it smelled terrible (as expected). She crossed her arms and tried to not think about how cold she was in her flannel button up and athletic shorts with flip flops. She had brought warmer clothes, but they were all packed away until they got to their first destination, which wouldn't be for another few hours. So, she waited and thought about all the things she was going to do on this trip while she waited her turn.
When she finally made it back to the RV, everyone was kinda just standing around a talking. She walked up to Lizzie, who said "Finally! We were about to leave you."
"Y'all were waiting up for me? In this cold? That's stupid. Shoulda stayed comfortable inside." Arden replied before stepping past her and back inside so her legs could warm up. Everyone followed soon after and they started moving again. Most people went back to where they slept, but Arden was ready to drink some coffee and read or something. She noticed then that Chris was walking past and stopped him, "Hey! Who's driving?"
He shrugged his shoulders, "Must be a ghost."
She rolled her eyes and ignored his response, moving onto her reason for bothering him in the first place, "Will you make me some coffee?"
"No, but I will make us some coffee."
"Sure, I guess that works, too." She replied before going to grab her book. She hoped to finish it before they got to the cabin because she had a lot more she wanted to read during this trip.
Eventually Chris came up to her with a white mug that contained tan coffee. Arden could tell by the color that Chris overdid it a little with the creamer, but she was nonetheless thankful he would even think about her weird preferences. She grabbed the mug from him and took a sip, relatively happy with the nice vanilla and hazelnut taste she received. Chris was looking at her expectantly as he sat down in the chair beside her, "So...how did I do?"
She looked up at him and smiled as she took another sip, only giving an enthused thumbs up as a response. He smiled happily to himself as she drank some of his coffee and scrolled through Twitter on his phone. Arden read, eventually losing most of her bearings outside of the story that she didn't register Chris calling for her attention a little later.
After a minute, he poked her shoulder and she looked up, her face worried. He chuckled before saying "Sorry! There was just this thread I found and thought you might enjoy." He handed his phone over to her and let her scroll. As she did, she soon learned it was Twitter's weekly roundup of relatable meme tweets, which she did enjoy thoroughly. What shocked her more was that Chris also enjoyed memes.
When she handed the phone back to him, she said "You meme?"
"I've been brushing up on them. They're surprisingly more funny than I expected. My favorite right now is the Harambe one. I feel terrible about what happened, but people on here are hilarious."
"Have you seen the Arthur one? Where he clenches his fist? It's iconic."
"No, not yet! Is it newer?"
"Yeah, next level. I don't know if you're ready for it." Arden bantered as she handed him back his phone. She was completely blindsided by this news and needed a minute to reevaluate everything. She couldn't lie to herself: he wasn't making it easy on her to ignore him and now that she knows he even speaks the art of edgier memes, she was lost. Of course her feelings for Chris hadn't completely gone away, but she was hoping they would with time, but that has yet to be the case. She didn't know if she was going to act on any of her feelings and say hell-all with Cole, but she knew now that she couldn't just count out Chris anymore. He was an actual possibility now and she had never felt more confused in her life.
