When Lily Evans first stepped onto the Hogwarts express, she was too busy trying to hold back tears caused by her sister Tuney to much notice where she was going. Which may explain the reason she walked straight into two black haired boys standing a few feet away from an empty compartment.
She jumped back quickly, "I'm sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going." Lily apologised, ever polite.
"Don't worry about it" the long haired, grey eyed boy said to her. The other boy grinned at her. He had hazel eyes and extremely messy hair. She immediately wondered if he owned a comb.
She smiled shyly at the two then walked on, entering the empty compartment and sinking into a seat in the corner. All she wanted was her best friend Sev. He could make her feel better. The words Tuney said to her kept repeating in Lilys head. Freak. Then she remembered it was mostly his fault Tuney was mad in the first place. She leaned against the window and allowed slow, silent tears to run down her face.
The two black haired boys from earlier entered into the compartment and were chatting excitedly about something called Quidditch. Lily took little notice though from the questions about which team they supported Lily guessed they had only just met. They didn't speak to her although the messy haired boy kept glancing at her. From the way she was sitting he wasn't able to see her cry. Lily was glad for this. It was her first day, and she didn't want to look like a cry baby.
Sev entered the compartment some time later already dressed in his robes. By this time Lily's sadness had already turned to anger as it often did for the small fiery red head.
He sat down opposite her and she couldn't help but glance at him. Unfortunately for him this only fuelled her annoyance and she returned to looking out the window, her face still tear stained.
"I don't want to talk to you." She told him.
"Why not?"
"Tuney h-hates me. Because we saw the letter from Dumbledore."
"So what?" He asked her.
This made Lilys emerald green eyes blaze. How couldn't he understand Lily loved Petunia, no matter what?
"So she's my sister!" Lily replied.Lily didn't notice Sev begin to insult Petunia before he could stop himself, too busy trying to wipe her eyes without anyone noticing.
As always Sev managed to cheer Lily up by reminding her of the magical castle awaiting their arrival.
Unfortunately her happiness was short lived as Sev soon spoke again.
"You'd better be in Slytherin.""Slytherin?" asked the messy haired boy from earlier in a voice of pure shock.
"Who wants to be in Slytherin? I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?" He asked his friend from earlier.Lily wasn't usually one to judge someone too quickly, but she didn't quite like the way he spoke as if he was better than everyone else, although she noticed he didn't seem to be acting this way to the other raven haired boy.
Lily watched the long haired boy as he looked at the messy haired boy. He didn't smile.
"My whole family have been in Slytherin" the boy said. He didn't sound happy about this particular fact.
Sev had explained to her all about the houses, and she knew that there was loads of rivalry, especially between Gryffindor's and Slytherin's who almost never got along.
Lily hadn't really thought much of it, and always assumed she'd just be in Slytherin like Sev. Although the other houses sounded good too....Once again the messy haired boy broke through her thoughts by telling the other boy, "Blimey, and I thought you seemed all right!"
Lily expected the long haired boy to be offended, but instead he grinned.
